David, your car looks great. My buddy just got his 64 Lemans on the road this past weekend. Has a 461 cubic inch, aftermarket suspension, Tremec 5 speed, Ford 9 inch rear, A/C blows cold! He's pretty happy with it. He still has to dial in the dual carbs and a few other things but it's coming along nice!
Great progress on your car. Congratulations! |

Funny story of the day. I had my speedometer rebuilt and reset to zero when I did the dash. I had it matched to the tire height etc so the speedometer was 100% accurate. I tracked it with my cell phone. Night before last I was riding with my wife and I commented to her on how accurate the speedometer was, about 20 seconds later the needle just went dead. The odometer stopped turning and that was that. There is a gauge restoration firm about 35 miles from here that I am taking it to the 13th but it just shows you dont ever brag.

Check out your cable & gears before you go tearing the dash out! 😁

Yeah I uplugged the cable at both ends, it looks good. I had good engagement and nothing was loose. The guys at the gauge shop are super nice, if its something else they will tell me. I dont think they will just rebuild it and leave me to fend for myself. Like I said the cable looks good, How do I tell if its the trans gear?

You could probably hook up a drill to the trans end of the cable and give it a spin...if the speedo works then you know the problem is in the trans.

You could also put the vehicle on jackstands, disconnect the cable from the speedo, and see if the end (inner cable) rotates when you run the car in gear. If it does, your trans gear is fine.

Haven’t gotten around to testing the speedo yet but I drove it by my estimate about 50 miles today and had no problems. Only thing I noticed is when it’s really warmed up sometimes I get some run on when I shut it off. Also when it’s cold (but not choke on) all I have to do is bump the key and it fires up. If I let it get hot it takes a little time to get it started again. Not bad just not as simple as short trip restarting. Is that probably timing? AC blows ice cold but it’s hard to overcome the 200 degree shifter hole in the floor. Hahaha
