I installed the OER 6K tack and 160 speedo and they look great and are working aw-sum..
I bought them from Classic Industries. Installed in a 76 Transam..

take a look at these,,they are mine..theres none better in my opinion used, unless you had a set restored and spent a lot of money...slip in a nice 160 speedo and you would have something special

I rebuilt an original tacho for mine with a new coil, only to damage the calibration of the needle. I grabbed a new OER unit, and unlike good used tachos, these come with working clocks that are now quartz like 79-up models. Fantastic repro. I picked mine up from Firebird Central about $50 less than the Classic price. Cost to post was double that so not a cheap item.

chuckies76 , why did you replace the tach in your T/A, I understand why you installed the 160 speedo but was the original tach bad?? If so what have you done with the old one. Do you still have it & if so do you want to sell it ???

Hi Rex: The original tack was bad. It wasn't working nor was the clock.. The clock would run for an hour or so then stop.. I still have the original, not sure at this point what it's worth. Send me a pm with an offer.

Thanks
Charles

seems like that tach isn't available for 79s
same for temp gauge too
that sucks

they do look nice
has anyone had any factory gauges restored? if so, by who? and how are they looking/working now?

i'd love to place the tach in my 79 with an 8k but seems like its not a simple plug and play deal

I dont see why it's not I have a 8,000 tach in my 79 but I believe the whole gauge cluster is from a older car but I think these tachs will bolt right in what could be different ?? I remember years ago I would swap all kinds of years into my 79 trans

Tach I think are easy to swap the 160 speedo has a different brake/seat belt light than my 78 did and for sure the 81.

One guy over on Nastyz28.com I think Gaugemarks restores them and can paint the 160 on the face with the correct brake/check engine lights that later TAs had.

Redline in KY for sure. Decent guy, rapid service- but then I knew a guy who knew a guy.
He is not impressed with the repros, the stuff inside makes him hurl.
