Default Tremec TKX shifter for a 69 GTO with a console

Hi,
I’m planning to update my Muncie M20 with a Tremec TKX.
More or less the only open question is the shifter.
I’f I have understood correctly, the the stock Tremec shifter does not fit with a console, but I need an offset shifter.
What are the Tremec TKX shifters options for a 69 GTO with a console?
Many thanks and best regards,
Samu

I measured and ordered an offset cut from a laser cutter. The shifter "pin" was cut, and the offset placed and welded.

Works well. I used a stock Hurst handle.

Pix if desired.

Hello, I have this shifter for sale here, https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=863076 . its for a 64-67 GTO the offset measurement is the same but the back is .150" longer which may or may not be a show stopper? I can get you better pictures if you'd like new offset pieces can be purchased as well

Every retailer of TKX trans has shifters that will work perfectly with a console and no mods.

Call Silver Sport or American Powertrain

MadGoat is correct, all the suppliers have their own brand of shifter that work with and without consoles for various car applications.

I prefer the White Lightening from American Powertrain. Comes in numerous offsets for many types of consoles, including A-body Pontiac, and then the shifter can be tweaked/adjusted in numerous combinations to suit a drivers liking. Also has reverse lockout when coming out of 5th gear which is really nice.

Shop around, prices vary quite a bit.

I second the White Lightning shifter.

But some swear by this QWIK STIK OFFSET SHIFTER:

Many thanks for the replies.

There seems to be a wide range of offset shifter options available.

In one end of the spectrum, an offset shifter is just a customized external base bar (@scarebird could you please show some pix of your solution).

And in the other end, it is an internal customized shifter that even isn’t necessarily a bolt on part (like the STX shifter https://shiftsst.com/blog/post/gm-a-body-1968-1972.html).

Anway, what I am looking for is a bolt on shifter (and be able to buy just a transmission instead of a +$1500 package).

Note I had to cut the pin in half and press off the bushings before welding so they would not melt - then press them back on again.

The one you want to ensure no cutting and to get the drive line angles correct will be one where the shift turret or tower is offset to the side, and is centered in the console opening. They do not look like a bolt on option, except at the vendor facility.

I can’t see the pic, there seems to be some issue with the link/attachment.

Maybe this will help. Yes it's a bolt in. Hit the option menu for a drop down.

These are sold with different offsets for all kinds of applications. The 2.25" offset is typically what is used in a 68-72 A body Pontiac application with a console.

You could call to confirm but pretty confident that's what I've used in the past
