Default hard starting

The 421sd in my 63 tempest does't want to start after 180 degrees. The hotter it gets the worst it gets. It trys to fire and seems to want to kick back. Was running 18 initial and went to 14. Plugs aren't wet. Gave it a light shot of starting fluid tonite and with a little cranking it started. Starts great when cold. Want all the bugs out before NORWALK (HELP) THANKS

Look into remote starter solenoid, heavier battery cabling, hi torque starter, an 850 to 1000 cca (cold cranking amp) Battery and plenty of GOOD grounds! (engine to chassis & chassis to body) almost more important than everything I've listed prior! So whats your current set up? What are you working with now?

Try adding an ignition interrupt switch. Get the motor spinning, then turn the ignition on. Or pull some timing out while cranking if your box will allow it.

What starter are you using ?? A good quality Nipendoso/race mini starter really help with cranking. By all means rig a remote solenoid. Like Slick1 said....check your grounds!
I use all the above mentioned remedies and my 13.8 CR 508 cranks fine...hot or cold.
My timing is locked out at 32 & box pulls 20 out while cranking...
Good luck..Norwalk is near !!!

Going to try a bigger gauge hot wire to box. I drive this thing on the street so it has time to absorb some heat under the hood on a 80-90 degree day. 63 tempest 421-980 heads-859 2x4 intake This thing would have been a real grin in its day

Default I forgot to ask...

If your battery is in the front then use what i posted above, if your battery is in the rear (trunk) then you will need this.
