I've pulled the 4 speed out of the T/A and I'm planning on using a TH400. So far all I've found that looks like it might work is a TCI competition 400 (P/N 212310) that has a 2.75 first gear. The T/A is pretty heavy (3800lbs last time I weighed it) so the low first gear ratio sounds like a good idea. I figure I'd ask around before dropping the money on the TCI unit. I'm also looking for converter recommendations for which brands hold up.

try here they're one of my favorites; Been racing a Jackson Street/strip T350's for 2 years now. They have been building racing trannys for 21 yrs. There is a Pontiac T350 for a 300.00 bid now! They also have T400's Cost a little more with a brake

Save your money on a 2.75 first gear, I run a standard 2.48 in my 69 GP and I too am very heavy and gone 6.20’s/9.90’s with it. Mine is a TCI, I have had good luck with them but I have heard of others that have not.

I am running a TCI Comp t400 no transbrake model.
Has performed great for a long time. Everytime I have my tranny guy go into it for inspections, he says everything still looks good. Also running a off the shelf TCI super street fighter. Flashes 4200. Works good for a shelf converter. Perhaps a little high on the slippage though.

Thanks for all the input, the TCI sounds like it's a good unit. I'm wondering about that 2.75 1st gear if it would cause problems on the 1-2 shift.
I'm trying a nitrous motor this year so it should be a lot of fun tuning the suspension to get it to hook. The problem is I'm stuck in Iowa for a while and will only have a short window in June to get the car rolling before I have to head back north again. I've got the final engine assembly lined up so I need to drop ship everything else so it's all ready to slap together when I get home. Tiki: If I ccan get my hands on a core I might try to swing by NC to see my mother and pick up a tranny package. |
