Trunk spatter paint turns dark after clear coat
I am using the Ames AC Delco spatter paint and the Eastwood Satin 2X clear. Never ran into this issue before. Spatter paint looked fine until i cleared. Now it looks too dark IMO. Any thoughts/recommendations on how to correct?

I've never cleared over spatter paint. Are ya supposed to? lol! I did have a similar problem with spatter paint however. My trunk, and underbody, was covered with tar type sealer. Very difficult to remove. So I sprayed straight over it. The tar would bleed through making brown areas. I had to apply many coats. I think I eventually found a brand that didn't bleed. You may be having a similar problem. The clear could be causing the dark specs to bleed. Might try a different clear coat. Try some on a test piece of metal.

I used Ames spatter and Ames clear on two . Never changed color. One is 22 yrs old and the other is 4 yrs old.

I will assume you used a 1x clear coat, and Not the 2x urethane clear that Eastwood makes and Ames sells ??( only in last 6 years its been available to my knowledge)

Thanks for the feedback. This is not the first time i spatter coated and cleared my trunk, and I too never had an issue, but is the first time for the Eastwood 2K Polyurethane Duraspray. Attached is a pic of the clear

Used NPD quart spatter paint sprayed from a schutz gun. Looks correct and according to the instuctions it dosn't need a clear coat. Took a piece of masking tape with spatter paint submersed it in water then rubbed it. Did'nt affect it. Had a base of black epoxy primer and only used half the container to cover. https://www.npdlink.com/

The spatter is larger than a spray can.

Big Bear, that looks great. I'm going to purchase the product you used and prep/shoot it again. Thanks again!
