I had a problem with the new 455 I'm running started puffing oil after long spells of idling. As the heads have tubes in pushrods and head bolt was worried they could be leaking. Put sealer under head bolt washers, still did it. Pulled all intake rocker studs off and used sealer and it seems fixed.

Edelbrock doesn't say to do this and I haven't heard anyone else say to do it, but it was a problem on my motor. All the Chevy heads that have a rocker hole in the intake port tell you to put sealer on them. Amazing just that small clearance can suck oil.

Skip - What did you use for sealer? I'll be buttoning up my T&D shaft valvetrain in the next few weeks and I was going to use blue loctite.

oil can find its way through the inboard rocker cover bolts on the super duty heads since the hole is open to the intake port. if the edelbrocks are similar in design, then sealer or teflon tape on the bolts are the fix for oil seepage.

I use moly lube & that's all. NO problems on any of my Edelbrock heads (3 sets). The drainback slots need to be deepened as the oil lays in the heads and can't be controlled by the seals. racing and driving forces the oil back into the pan. Pull the cover off right after you run and you will see what I mean. There's enough oil in there to make a batch of Hooter's wings. and a side order of fries. Bracket racer/ use moly lube. I run 2 sets of T&D, and never used anything different. Later. http://sites.netscape.net/pontiacdude428

Thanks - I'll try the moly lube. I expect the pushrods to show up any day so I can button up the valve train then it's off to the chassis shop for custom step header fabrication.

I just used Teflon sealer by permatex. ARP has a similar one too. Alot of the Chevy head bolts go into water jackets so sealers are a big deal for them.

I had radiused and polished the drain holes before the heads ever went on. Several pictures in different articles show the water jacket is REAL close to the oil drain back holes so you can't do a whole lot of work there.

I hadn't thought of the valve cober bolts. The gasket goes all the way around so not sucking oil but could be a small vacuum leak.
