Default '72 455HO correct water neck

Hi, can someone tell me which one of these is correct for '72? They were both bolted to intake manifolds so what caught my eye was the faceted side on #1. But when I put them side by side, there is quite a difference in them. #2 has a flatter angle up from the manifold and is clocked more towards the carb. Is there different part no's. for radiator hoses through these years, or is one of these not a Pontiac application?
Thanks!

mine looks just like your #2 water neck with just the one small dimple by the forward bolt hole. It has a part number on the back side of W-1444. I can't say for 100% sure that it's original to the car, though the HO intake is dated to my '72 car. One small difference in mine and yours is this one has a fairly prominent parting line that runs down the middle of the flange.

Rick, thanks for the tip to look for part numbers. I did some 'digging', and under many layers of paint are the following part numbers:

#1 489869

#2 478144

Firebird parts catalog says:

489869 is for 73-76 V8
478144 is for 71-72 V8

I don't find any separate listing for the aluminum HO intake water neck so not sure if there is a different one now

Rick, thanks for the help clearing this up. I'll use the 478144! By the way, do you have an electronic parts catalog? If so, where can you pick those up?

I got my CD version of it on eBay, about $35, but here's a link to some scans of the master parts catalog:

http://www.teufert.net/partbook/index.htm

there are separate links under each section for illistrations and part numbers, they are kind of close together so it took me a few clicks to realize that.

RicksGTO,....you probably realize that W-1444 is an aftermarket part, possibly Airtex. I'm betting it's cast iron rather than aluminum.

Hey Ric, I hadn't looked at it much until he asked the question but after looking the part numbers up, I was beginning to suspect it wasn't original. I wondered if the W in the part number meant it was a Winter's part but I've since found a very small logo on it that has been worned down too much to read but it doesn't look anything like the Winter's logo on the intake.
