Quadrajet Carb Stamping Question
I recently picked up this 7029270 carb along with a bunch of other parts from a guy that was into cars in the 70s and 80s. The guy was in his 80's and said he pulled the carb off a 1969 Judge in 1982ish. On a side note, he said he sold the car for $1500 back them. The carb looks to be in good survivor condition except for the broken choke pull off. I am curious about the stamp since it is a different font than I am used to seeing on Chevrolet Q-jets. I know Holleys pretty well but Rochester carbs are not something I'm sure familiar with. I checked with a few guys that I feel are in the know and they said the stamp looks good. What do you guys think?

It appears to be genuine in all respects, except that someone ignorant completely unnecessarily screwed on a hot idle compensator cover that is not used on this carburetor.
And, in 1969 three different styles of application number, plant code and date was used. Yours is the one used beginning Dec 1968 to end of Feb 1969. |

looks great to me.
Some people don't realize that the application number and date code numbering changed several times between 1968 & 1969. I wonder if that carb was rebuilt at some point, and was drilled for the rear hot idle compensator.

Is this this the area you are referring to? I removed the cover which seems to be eld in place by Mickey Mouse type screws. There is something inside but there does not appear to be a hole inside for the contraption to do anything.

That is precisely the spot we are talking about.
on all but a few the fuel bowl was drilled at the bottom of that well to permit vacuum from the rear screw in "T" on the throttle body to that point. Those few which were not drilled there did not need the cover and the other bits.

Thanks. So that rear cover and piece inside should be removed since they are not original to the carb?

if the bottom of that well has a hole that leads to the throttle body rear vacuum port, you should put it back.
That bottom hole is always (afaik) on the throttle body; It's the hole in line with that one, in the fuel bowl which predicates the need, or lack there of, for the hot idle compensator.

Its solid in that vacuum area. There are no screws in those holes which is how it came to me.

the center throttle body screw was eliminated during 1970(?);
With those screws missing, all that's holding the throttle body on are two tiny dowels, and the rear airhorn screws... probably mostly the latter. Those missing screws, should you want to replace them, are the same thread size and pitch as the airhorn screws, but originals are phillips head instead of flat head.

I appreciate the help confirming this carb is the real deal. I have had a number of messages inquiring to buy it. The prices for these carbs seem to be all over the place. Most appear to be service replacements or restamped units so finding the true value is difficult. For that reason, I plan to post this on EBay as a no reserve auction starting at $9.99. I will post an update here once the auction goes live. The auction will likely start on Thursday of next week. Thanks again for the help,

congrats!!
When I first bid, it was purely to bump the auction (I never really hoped to win); After I received notification of being outbid, I went to do another one (again too low to actually hope to win) but found that it had already gone up over what I intended my second bid to be. I don't typically watch* 7028270/3 & 7029270/3 - but I'm thinking that got good money; I believe right now the 7029270 SR is the cheapest one of the lot, but this went beyond what I recall seeing any recent 7029270 ending at. * = I more closely watch legit 7040270 quadrajets because I would like to have one to replace the 7029270-SR on my '70-YZ engine... but at the current going rate, I don't plan on ever getting one.

I’m guessing about $900;
But I seem to recall even “dolled up” replated (nice looking) SR carbs going for a lot more - like about double. Typically OE (as opposed to SR) carbs all demand a premium; and the m/t carbs all carry their own premium. There’s a LOT of fake stuff out there - when in doubt, get an opinion. This one had a lot going for it; OE not SR; good colour with good visual appeal; complete with no apparent issues.
