71 grand prix motor
There is a 71 gp 400 / 300hp motor with 96 heads in the baltimore area.
Is $850 a fair price. |

I'm of the opinion that's about 2.5 times TOO much. Nothing "special" about it unless you're restoring a '71 Grand Prix. Everyone thinks every old engine is a "classic" these days. Offer them $350... It IS, afterall, a "core".

Is it a "tired" 400 in need of rebuilding or has it been rebuilt. If it's a GP 400 it should be the same YS code as the GTO.

I also think it's too high. I picked up a '71 YS complete from air cleaner to pan along with it's TH400 tranny for $400 not that long ago. The 96 heads do seem to be somewhat desirable and I've seen people asking some good money for them.

IMO, if YOU didn't have the rebuild done yourself, it's a "core" (regardless of advertised "miles", etc.). Unless of course, you know the person that had the rebuild done, and KNOW it was a good shop that did it.
