Default Vacuum gauge

I'm going to be installing a vacuum gauge in my 70, because with a cam having lot of overlap I like to stay upon my tune. How many still tune their engine using one? Pontiac at one time installed them on several models .Why was this feature discontinued?

I use them temporarily on occasion If I want to play with power valves on a new carb/engine setup, but never had the need to keep one on a car permanently.

I believe they were marketed on cars as a fuel economy gauge. YMMV !

a vacuum gague can be used for many things, but i would rather an 02 sensor. even that can be a set and forget once you get it right.

I had a factory gauge in my 65 GP and I believe it was standard in the GP with the automatic, it was graduated in both inches of vacuum and with 3 blended colors such that the left side ( green ) was labeled economy and the far right side which was Red ( and zero ) was labeled power. The middle range color was yellow and if I recall right if the needle was centered it was reading 10 to 12 inches.

The motor in the car was the standard 325 hp 389.

I think that feature was dropped because a lot of owners would hardly pay attention to a oil pressure gauge after a while, no less a Vacuum gauge, or that it was a hardly requested option and could only be used with a console to mount it to.
