My gosh, people sensitive about oil filter changes. I did not know that.

Been through a CASE of GM Delco filters from PY ( a very important award from ~2006). Well i got 1 left, and have gotten other filters free with the new oil. Seems i best slow down on filter swaps.

If I have time I let it drain a few hours. If I don't, I change it whenever I can. As long as it gets done I'm happy.

There are 2 ways to keep an engine in good physical shape, keep changing and flushing the engine with new oil and OEM filters, or filter the oil clean with an efficient filter. Either will work.

It's just better, and cheaper, to remove all the harmful micro contaminants first pass, rather than let them recirculate until the oil is changed. The difference is the time frame the contaminants unable to be removed, do their damage.

I'm not going any further than this post, so you can say anything that comes to your mind.
After 40 years of doing the same thing as Brad, I can say honestly that he is correct. There is no argument. The only downside is the expense and installation of a bypass unit. Bypass units filter a small portion of the oil constantly, and remove grit that normal filters cannot. Period. Use one or not, but they absolutely work.

I don't think anyone is saying bypass filtration doesn't work, I think it's more like people are tired of the endless infomercial everytime a oil thread is posted ,

They work does everyone need or want one NO !

Hearing the same repetative information over and over and over is in fact an annoyance to alot of people iam sure there is TV commercials your tired of as an example

The best time to change your oil is when you feel like it hot or cold within time and mileage guidelines not what filtration to use

I just change it. If the oil is warm, fine, if the car has been sitting for weeks and it's ice cold, that's fine too.

I pre fill the filter on cars that allow it, and don't on cars that wont allow it.

MOre importantly where to you dump it at :

Neighbors lawn in the shape of a swastika
Lake
Sewer
Bottom of the trash bag
Leave it at Costco parking lot
Drain it in a dirt field ( like they do in Europe)
Put it in the same gallon jug, return it for your money back
Pour it in your ex wife’s trunk
Put it in the garbage outside Starbucks
Pour it on a black top road, sit back and have a beer
Send it to that guy you hate on the forum
Or all the above

Why do they have to be mutually exclusive? What if you want to fold
all of them as singles? Is there even such as thing as a single sock?
Because even if they're mismatched, you always wear two. And what
about half socks?

I work in a parts store. Some people actually try this. If the seal is broke on the jug...no money back.

Not sure why you'd let the oil drain for hours. Many engines contain quite a bit of oil even after draining. I know at least one honda has 1.1qt of oil still in the motor after pulling the drain plug and changing filter. They list 3 fill specs, initial dry fill, fill without filter, and w/filter. Initial dry fill is 1.1qt more then fill w/filter.

Yes, a Pontiac V8 has more than a quart of oil in it no matter how long you leave out the drain plug. The crankshaft, oil galleries, lifters, and oil pump all hold that much oil. Those of us who have rebuilt Pontiac engines know the first fill takes a little more than a quart plus the normal refill.

I believe it's wise to drain the oil when hot or warm while some contaminants are in suspension. That is not a complicated concept.

Does that not mean you then have a quart in the crankshaft, oil galleries and oil pump, plus another quart up in the heads? Not being a troll, just figure that the longer it sits, the more hits the pan. Unless you are using bacon grease, it aint turning solid when cool so what’s the big deal with warm?

And that relates to how much oil is up inside a running engine when you figure how much oil to run. And also how much oil inside your oil filter when running, and the oil pan capacity, etc.

Example the popular Canton Road Race pan, they state 6-quart "system" capacity. By that they mean 5 quarts for the pan itself and 1 quart for the oil filter. That said, almost all popular filters used do not hold 1 quart of oil. And those who run remote mounted oil filters, how much oil are in your lines.
