Default Pontiac dealer photos on Curbside Classic

There was a post yesterday on the Curbside Classic website with period photos of various Pontiac dealerships: https://www.curbsideclassic.com/unca...ots-postcards/

I'm not on Facebook so I wasn't aware of this, but in the comments someone included a link to a Facebook page that has a database of Pontiac dealers: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1473353926734598

That's my lil group.

I post 2 dealers a day and others are starting to contribute. Dealer name/ street address/ city (trying to keep it searchable), and pics of the dealer, plus any bits such as dealer badges or plate frames. So far, it seems to be coming along nicely.

My Pontiac dealer list is right about 10,000 currently, about 5000 coded. I have about 1500 photos, so those are the ones I post. Also try to add if the building stil stands / a pic of it today. Still finding more.

I was wondering if that was yours!
Do you have the dealer codes also?

I have never seen an extensive list as what you have.

The majority of mine come from PHS' and buildsheets I find.
And that's with no dealer pics!

I haven't been posting the dealer codes, but I'll answer any questions about them if asked. I may go back and add the codes to the existing posts before the post count gets too high.

I record whatever source that provides the dealer code (mostly build sheets, warranty cards/booklets, POP or original window stickers), then I also list any other years I find the dealer existed, to establish a timeline.

If you tally the 'available' numbers of 999 x the 27 zones - that's a possible 26,973 dealer numbers. Obviously- the count never got that high & some zones 'went dormant'... but there were so many tiny dealers before the code system. I wonder what a rough total tally would be.

Wow, that is an amazing amount of work.

I flipped through a few and will find time to go through it. Very cool to see the small towns and the great photos. My dad was born in Billings MT and seeing the dealership there reminded me of him.

Very cool!

The first picture of Carbone Pontiac was from my hometown area. Many GTO’s and Firebirds that roamed the local streets came from there.

Thanks. I iniitally started this project in '89; used to run an ad in Smoke Signals and people mailed me info (gasp!), then in the early '90s I shelved it when I found the UltimateGTO site. But that list has been dormant since 2009 at this point. Restarted it about 5 years ago... and it went boom.
