Thing is, with the original rear, you never know when it's going to let go, regardless of power level or sticky tires. Not to mention just about every one out there is bent. And we won't even go into mentioning axles.

Even tho a new Moser is a pricey endeavor, you never have to worry about for 300k+ miles, regardless of power levels, tires, or driving habits.

Moser has 2 diff housing ends that use the Ford large bearing, the 7900, and the 7900FM (flush mount).

The 7900 is for drum brake cars and uses all the factory stuff, the 7900FM is for disc brake conversions so you don't have to space the retainer out to compensate for the backing plate.

My advise is, get the FM, for future possible disc upgrade, and space the backing plate out.

Also, have the rear narrowed 1" on both ends, so when you do go disc brakes, you don't have to worry about wheel/tire offset.

And please, just go to 1350 yoke, even if you have to use a conversion u-joint. It provides a path for more power without having to worry about it later. Just makes sense.

(technically, you should be running a 50+ yo driveshaft either, but not going there in this thread)

Or have a look at a ford 9 inch from a place like quick performance. They can be had for a lot less than the Moser 12 bolt if you just need a reliable driver type solution.

What are the trade-offs of the 12 bolt mosier vs the 9" fjord type?

Is one stronger and or lighter than the other?
