Thanks Lloyd and 77 Trashcan,

This one, or the 400 Tempest will be at this years Pure Stock Drags (parked - not racing since I'll be busy running the show with Dan & Lyndon). If I bring the LeMans, I may sneak out on the track for a run or two.

Default Lemans getting a new heart...

Well, time to resurrect this old thread on the old girl...it seems Dan and I can't leave things well enough alone, actually, it's all my fault. The '70 YH 455 motor was pulled out of the Lemans as it (with '71 455HO top end) is going into the '71 GT-37, and the 462 front the '70 Tempest is the Lemans' new motor with swap to a iron intake and Q-jet carb. It will have the RARE Ram Air exhaust manifolds too, so we have to swap out head pipes. The Tempest is getting a new XV 400 4-bbl motor still at the machine shop.

I'm thinking about adding power steering to the Lemans since it is a handful to drive with the 4-speed and the skinny & slippery wood wheel!

You guys sure have some neat cars!

Iam surprised that this car isn't staying with the standard exhaust manifolds though.

The logs are going on the Tempest coupe's XV 400 motor. I'm swapping the mandrel headpipes to stay with the manifolds they were mated to (running out of money!).

Motor on the left is the 455HO for the GT-37; .040 over 455, 8.5 to 1 compression, 2802 Summit cam, forged internals. Estimating 405 hp/506 torque.

Motor on the right is the 462 for the Lemans 4-dr 4-speed; .030 400 block with 4.25" strock crank, 041 copy cam, 6x8 heads with SD perf 260 cfm cnc work, 2.5" RARE RA manifolds, forged internals. Dyno'd 450hp/550 torque.

Getting closer and no break-in necessary...easy peasy!

Nice car. Is it still in existence?

Has anyone ever installed a 1970 GTO nose on such a car- 4 door hardtop or post sedan? Any pictures of such?

What a great thread! Being that I still have the 70 LeMans my dad bought in 75 it really hits home! Great progress on this car!

Here is a pic of my 70. It’s not a sport or a 4 door though. I love seeing the less obvious cars being taken care of

Nice! Agreed, I like to see the non-GTO and cars we ignored and thrown away. The few that remain turn heads now at the car shows.

I may be in the minority here, but I have always liked the '70 Tempest bumper over the 71/72 bumper;
they're all great cars, but it seems like
most prefer the 71/72 nose.
Not me.

@1965gp - looks great!
did you lower it, or is that (like how my Firebird was) just tired front springs?

Back when I got my first car (Pontiac of course) it was a factory 350-2v 68 Lemans hardtop 2 door with Hurst shifted M20 Muncie and open 3.23 , cameo Ivory with red buckets no console. The Z bar broke at the pivot stud area by block and amazing the local wrecking yard by my Dad's place in the later 80's (Blackland wrecking) said they had one.
I go to pull it and its a 69 Liberty Blue Lemans 4 door hard top 350-2v with bucket seats and rally II's and factory Hurst floor shifted (3 ? ) speed stick also no console. What a rare car that must have been...…

Unruhjonny- you are spot on. This car has about 220,000 miles on it (original unrebuilt motor Trans and rear!) and the suspension is just a little tired.

Ironically there was a suspension company (maybe PST) that stole a pic of this car before it was done (still had white 67 seats in it) and used it for their advertisements in Smoke Signals. I called them and asked them how they got the pic and they were complete A$$holes about it saying it wasn’t my car (complete with green interior, white seats,etc) so I asked them how their customers would like to know they are using a car with stock 200,000 mile plus suspension to sell their ‘cutting edge’ products. I didn’t want them to stop using it, I just wanted the story of why they chose it. If they hadn’t been so rude about it I wouldn’t have cared. I think they quit using it.

Thanks Douglas, yes, still in my possession, part of the family for 40 plus years now, but has been off the road for many years. I've seen 70 GTO fronts on wagons, but never a 70 4 door sedan. I have seen 71 4 door hardtops with the endura front though.

Thanks Steve!

Glad to read it still exists. Way too many 4 door hardtops parted/crushed etc by those failing to recognize their potential, even particularly weirdly so in the past near two decades when they were no longer 5-15 year old "used cars".

White with blue is a particularly great color, especially as it roughly mimicks the Trans Am. Seems there should be some of these cars - hardtop or even post sedan - factory ordered with the 400, or 455 (if 1971-1972), yet have yet to see it. But even if a not so desirable color, std 350 2b, would be nice to find more of these 4 door hardtops for some interesting touring car builds. Recently obtained a 1972 Luxury LeMans, original 350 2b gone, but thankfully blue inside and out, with no vinyl roof. My plan is to build it as a "what if" Luxury LeMans Sport (Pontiac only offered the 4 door hardtop LeMans Sport for 1970-71, and also dropped the LeMans 4 door hardtop, making the LML the only such intermediate Pontiac 4 door hardtop for 1972.

Would love seeing more photos of you 70 LM 4drhtp. Am curious to see how the dash looks with right hand drive.

Same here...I've had a 70 .71 and a 72 LeMans and prefer the 70 LeMans nose.
