Here are the starts of my transmission tunnel, not attached yet.
Used A-body dimensions on a piece of cardboard as the starting dimensions. Then, started trimming. The metal is 22gauge cold roll steel and started out as a 36x36" piece. Cost me $40 to my door on Ebay.
The final piece I ended up with is smaller than what is here. Will post that up in the next few days.
It will be a removeable tunnel for sure.

Here is my question:
How do you guys that have larger tunnels manage the carpet- get it by the yard or just buy and deal with what you get on these cars?

As always, thank you,
Joel

Morning.
Here are a few pics of the floor all painted up. Had to patch the passenger side body mount as it was ate through on that side at the vent area- presumably leakage through cowl or window. Welds are not perfect but it’s my first ever mig welding and it’s flux wire.

I wanted to ask again if it makes sense to get another year carpet or to buy carpet by the yard with the larger tunnel- anyone have ideas or experience with that? I think I have added significant area with the new tunnel...
Thanks all.
Joel

Looks like you have done a fine job of putting in that O/D trans.
Since the hump is considerably larger now you probably won’t find a fitted carpet to fit exactly.
I would try to find a piece of matching carpet slightly larger than the hump, cut the center out of the existing carpet, measure carefully and have an upholstery shop sew the new piece in. With some binding on the splices it would look fine imho

Good job, good luck

Thank you very much for the input, I appreciate it.

What might make sense is to simply get the normal carpet for the car and then get an extra yard to cover whatever is necessary.

Is there a carpet that allows the installer to cut out the whole for the shifter- as in the automatic? This would be ideal in the event the OE carpet still worked.

Again, appreciate the feedback guys.

The carpet for my Catalina had a hump or bulge for the shifter porch in the stock location.
If there is an upholstery guy near you I would get their advice
