Yes, Hot Rods to Hell. Dana Andrews was trying to outrun the hoodlums.

Forgot about that one, but it definitely qualifies for FUGLiest design EVER!

As a current observation: modern cars all look like jelly beans because that's a good aero shape to help gas mileage. I call them appliances as opposed to most Pontiacs from the 60s & 70s and some other cars too which are AUTOMOBILES. For instance when I drive my original 1955 Packard Patrician around town I ALWAYS get thumbs up and if I stop someplace for any time, people come up to me to talk about it and compliment it. That never happens in an "appliance."

I agree that the Virgil Exner designed mopars of the '50's and '60's are some of the most over-the-top designs ever, but they are so weird I love them. Especially the '61 Fury...been looking for one of those for years. Love those cars. Like a space ship out of a grade Z movie. Also, IMO, the '62 Pontiac wasn't just the best looking GM car in '62, but the best looking car, period. Even today, I have to admit I like the look of the '62 the best, even without a bubble top option. Cleanest lines ever.

So far we have the Plymouth Savoy, Ford Edsel, and Dodge Lancer as top picks. Nothing for the Continental or Electra. Now I wish I would have included the 1962 Dodge Dart in the poll! Overall, I think Chrysler had the most bizarre styling in these years. Chrysler designer Virgil Exner designed some of the best looking cars of the 1950's, followed by some of the ugliest cars of all time.

Could probably start another poll for the ugliest rear ends. Some 1958-1962 Chrysler models may again dominate that list, with the 1962 Dart taking center stage.

'58 Edsel. It really does remind me of a toilet seat.

Yeah, '62 Dart is pretty bad.
Call me weird. The '61 Savoy is actually my favorite of those six.
Like B-man said. Bizarre = awesome.

I would much rather hate on the rearend of all the mid fifties cadillacs (excepting the 57 EL Dorado)

I voted for the Savoy but quite a few of those I really dig. I love the Buick.

The Edsel has to be the worst since it pretty much torpedoed an entire brand/make. The other brands lived on. Here's a couple of misses from 1970.

It's amazing how far apart Chrysler designs were from General Motors in 1962. General Motors was on top of the world back then.

that Mopar always looked like they dropped a car on top of another car to me.

1959 Buick does not belong on that list. Always thought that front end was pretty cool - kind of sinister looking.

And the styling of the new Lexus is absolutely hideous.

I like a few of Dodge/Plymouth stylings but agree, the Savoy is bad! Early Darts I am not a fan of either. GM certainly had the styling factor down compared to the others. Even when I look at the A bodies from '68-'72, Pontiac exteriors and especially interiors seem top notice compared to the Olds, Buick, Chevy A bodies.

They are nasty looking. The Nissan "Joke" is about the ugliest thing ever put on 4 wheels.. I think all the "angry" looking plastic front ends are an attempt to put "style" into an otherwise bland looking object.

I've always liked the '70 Coronet/Super Bee front ends.

The name Savoy didn't help much either.

Wow! We all have different views of a these oldies...LOL
I posed a question here, sometime back comparing 55-57 Chevys to 55-57 Pontiac's. Most here preferred the Pontiacs of that era. I like the more simplistic lines of a the Chevys with much less chrome...
The older I get a he more I appreciate ANY old car in good shape. My buddy had a 72 GTO, I liked it, but I like all the GTO's. I give the 65 and 70 models a slight edge as fav's.

The poll is closed, and the 1961 Plymouth Savoy was the overwhelming favorite.

I forgot to add the 1961 DeSoto into the choices. I think it may have taken second place.
