Default Gordon Lightfoot Passes @84

https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/news...84/ar-AA1aBZXk

This is indeed sad news! I have been a fan of his since the 70's & two years ago got to see him in concert at the Northfield Casino here in Northern Ohio.

@82 years old, he still had his voice & put on a nice concert. His story telling through his music was amazing & was far more than just the guy who made the wreck of the E.F. famous.

RIP Gordon.

Here is one that is not so much known as it was not played to death on the radio, but is one of my personal favorites. At the concert, I yelled out the title & was sitting close enough that he heard me. He smiled & pointed to me, but was not on his set list.

God Bless
Bill

The only person who could write a song story as well as Gordon Lightfoot would be Jim Croce. I'm glad his songs will live on for generations.

"Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" will outlive all of us, it is a timeless song.

whenever I am in a boat, and the wind picks up, and/or the weather turns bad, I find myself humming that song

My mother was good friends with Mr. Lightfoot's sister. So we ended up at his cottage a couple of times. I was very young but I remember it well. My oldest brother went sailing with him and they keeled the boat over. We moved far away sometime after that, so that was it.

I saw him perform live in Dayton, OH at the Hara Arena. Essentially a 3500 seat hockey arena. Place was about 3/4 full. It was just Mr. Lightfoot, a stool and his guitar. I think what stood out most was how album quality his voice and guitar sounded. He just sounded great. RIP.

The historic Split Rock lighthouse north of Duluth, MN was lit on Wednesday to honor Gordon. It's normally only lit a few times each year, including on the November 10 anniversary of the shipwreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Spent a hour early this morning listening to my Gordon Lightfoot favorites, one of which is “Race Among the Ruins” off of “Summertime Dream”. Between my youngest sister and I we wore that album out.
