I added more pics from the old McNamara Pontiac building. In these pics you will see a 65 Tempest that has been flawlessly restored along with a 67 Sprint LeMans conv.
There are several more pics on my photobucket web site...

One interesting fact, the 65 Tempest in these pics was originally sold at this very dealership at this very location. The owner of the 65 has the metal dealer marker that was put on the tail pan from the dealer back in 65...

Might be a good idea to see if you could get a car show together there. Now those would be GREAT pics. Make it look like a dealer in the 60's |

BOREK PONTIAC?
This is such a cool post!
Does anyone here recall BOREK PONTIAC formerly of Blue Island, IL? I'll post some pictures of the dealership just before it was razed in early '08 the back of the building still had lots of character and the original neon sign pointing to the service area! |

Yes they are still a GMC-Buick dealer I believe. A GMC Terrain is in the showroom. Nice roads for a cruise thru some cool old towns and countrysides!!

From dealership to personal shop
We passed through a small town called Leesville, LA recently and found an old car dealership that somebody appears to be using to house their Mopar collection. None of the old dealership signs remained on the outside of the building, but you could tell from its form that it was a former car dealership. They have their restored cars sitting in the old showroom, along with automobilia such as old gas pumps and signs. All of this is visible from the street, as shown in the photos below. They are using the repair part of the old dealership to store the works-in-progress and lots of parts. We saw several more cars, and engines, rear ends, seats, etc, on sitting on racks in the shop. The place looks like it could easily be a classic car restoration business, except there was no signage on the building to indicate that it was a commercial enterprise, although I suppose it still might be. If it is someone's personal shop, how cool is that, to house your collection and your shop in an old dealership!

I've had a similar thought, or of using an old service station as a storage/restoration facility. K

I was able to do something similar to what 67Lemans did - back on Father's Day I was able to drive the GTO over to 400 N Main Street in Royal Oak, formerly Royal Pontiac (and more recently formerly Jim Fresard Pontiac) for a photo shoot. This would be the actual location where the car was delivered new.
The building is actually being considered for a Kroger supermarket ( I have also heard they may tear it down), so I wanted to get some photos before that happened. These are intended to be primarily documentation of the existing buildings, but if one or two turned out to be somewhat artistic...well, that's a bonus I guess. One other ironic thought: during my growing up years, when we were at Royal a couple times a week, it was a 40 or 50 mile ride. Now, as an adult, I live about 4 miles from this hallowed ground. K The house on the left appears in a number of vintage photos, so I wanted to make sure I caught it in a couple of mine: New favorite photo:
