Nice find, Mike. Looks reasonably solid for a car from the heartland

Contacted BFG / Michelin re the tire the first of this week and they referred me to Zurcher Tire in Monroe. Salesman told me tire was too old to do anything with regardless of the condition. Did ofer to sell me a replacement @ his cost. THat Cost ended up being the same price I bought each of the front tires for a few weeks ago thru and that was thru another dealer that had sourced them thru Zurchers. I contacted BFG again and voiced my displeasure at how the transaction was executed. BFG called and if they follow thru with our conversation they will have made this right.Pretty impressive customer service from them.

Regardless of the above, Car's back on the road and Ad it out for a short run last night after balancing.

Update on this one.

Had a peice of fuel hose deteriorate and get into the Primary jet on the rh bank of the engine. Severe lean condition at cruise and part throttle. Found fixed, road tested fine.
Ended up pulling the rear window to reset it for a waterleak while I was at it. Car has as close to perfect channels as you can find. OE paint still on them. Window is reset and it's sitting in the rain right now so we'll see how it does.

A clean rear window channel is rare, especially on a vinyl top car. Nice!

Built a blower switch out of two tonight since the other one burnt up. Literally. I'l say that's a bitch to replace with the console installed. Put a bulb in the OE radio while I was there. Next on the list is a trans mount and a good cleaning.

I've seen a few of those switches in GP's I've had over the years do that. A couple of them got hot enough to melt the connector and wiring. I've always been careful not to let the fan speed run on high for too long.

this one burnt the bakalite out of the back. melted the solder out of the terminals also!

High wasn't the issue, it was medium. Cleaned up the guts from a Cat switch and installed them in the Prix housing with some dielectric grease and it's back to moving air. That switch is a mother ****er to install with a console present.

On the bright side, the OE radio now has a new bulb in it! Looks right at night and still works.

New trans mount is installed, got the stud gun out and pulled the crease / big den out of the trans pan that the raccoon who committed suicide tonight caused. The only comfort is I know he felt it and this one hurt!

Damn, that puppy did get hot!

So the switch internals are likely all the same between the different models, just different housings and levers... good to know. Yes, its PITA working under the dash with everything else in place.

David. I laid under the pass side after pulling the A/C duct and radio. wedged a shoplight into the opening and worked with a wrench. had to remove a switch that covered one of the mounting bolts for the blower switch first. It was a mother to get back in but I had no desire to pull the dash with only a limited amount of time before heading to the P/Y open house. It wasn't easy but it is possible. Might help that I do this for a living also.

Update on the trip to the P/Y open house. Car preformed flawlessly. PA turnpike saw us cruising on the big end of 90 to keep up with traffic for a lot of miles. We stopped at Gettysburg on the way home and spent most of the day wandering around there absorbing the exhibit / battlefield.

With the time we spent at the Battlefield removed the trip went as follows.
Average speed coming home was 87.5 mph.
Average Fuel economy was 17.5 MPG! Not bad at all for a car with 3.23 gear, TH400 and a 245/60/R14 tire.

Another great trip in the bank.

Glad you had a good trip Mike. I bet that 87mph gave it a good work out.

She ran well Bob, used no oil, and kept what should be the shiny side up! Made for a great trip.

Congratulations, Mike! It's great when your hard work is rewarded.

I'll bet this car's going to be one of those ornery ones you can't help but love, right? You know the kind, they fight you all the way, break the craziest things at the oddest times and seem to hate having a woman in the car. But when you're all alone at 3:00 am and a familiar road is empty, you can just bury the pedal and cruise as one. Sometimes they might embarass you and the next minute make you proud when they do something memorable. Just like your kids, right?

Did I miss it or haven't you pulled the heads on the 400, yet?

Sorry I couldn't make P/Y, lots happening. Deb's 89 y/o mom passed away and we've had a lot going on since then with her affairs.

That's great mileage! I would think you'd do better with a 400 at that kind of speed, but I don't know. It would be hard to beat. The smaller engines of today might do better than that, but they do it with a lot longer gear.

You on for Norwalk? Haven't talked to Keith for a while, but I doubt if he'll miss it.

Rich, car doesn't mind women at all.Doesn't break often either. Climbing the mtns is where she shines compared to the 4 cyls of today. A change in exhaust pitch is all you notice on this old girl. Re pulling the heads, no I've not gotten around to that yet. When it's a major repair she fights like a pissed badger but when it's done it seems to be done. It's a pleasure to drive, even with the spiral shocks still on the back. Springs , shocks and bushings being freshened are on the list but not an immediate necessity.@ 90 k miles I consider most of this maintenance.

I talked to Keith Sat, sounded like he'll be @ Norwalk. Tray's having surgery on the 23rd of June, Norwalk for me depends entirely on his recovery time. I hope to make it up for at least a day but no clue if it'll happen.

Sorry to hear of your MIL's passing. Hope you get it settled soon. That's a bitch to deal with.

Mike

just giving a status update on the old girl.

Did the chassis late last fall with new CSS springs wound to ride handling pkg specs with 1" of added hieght in the front and 2" added in the rear. PolyGraphite bushings in the front also premium gas shocks round it out. I had to replace the front sway bar due to damage and went with an OE 1.250 unit, added a 1" rear bar also. Road manners are greatly improved and cornering is FLAT now, ride is 1000% better and fun factor is off the charts.

Last fall the vinyl top gave up the ghost and got air under it. I ripped it off and will probably paint the top black for now. Need to get that nasty contact cement off of it first.[ uck] the car really needs the contrast to look right IMO. Will pull the windsheild and rebed it when I do the top.

Currently waiting on the salt to be gone so I can get it out for the summer. Pics with the brick house are from Christmas Eve of 2011 as the roads were clear and we had the itch.

I got tired of having to clean the AR200's and had a set of 15x7 P/I wheel powder coated. Tires are 235 60 15's. They're the same diameter as the 14's that were on it before. I added the patina'd dog dishes for some contrast a couple weeks ago. So far I'm liking the look and may buy a repop set when the car's painted. At some point I'll do up a set of Rally 2's sans trim rings for her also.
