Thanks. I haven't opened the package to my Lokar throttle cable yet since I'm still using the factory piece. I purchased a Lokar kickdown switch and the required bracket isn't compatible with the factory cable, which led me to the Lokar throttle cable.

Based on your description, I have to get aquainted with the pedal mechanism in my bird cause I can't picture it. It's difficult for me to envision how that replaced the clevis clamp? BTW, do the ferrules come with the throttle cable kit?

On the top of your gas pedal is a SLOT that the stock cable with a "ferrule" (that looks like a lead fishing shot weight.) slides into. On the LOKAR it had that removable Clevis pin. I just unscrewed that clevis from the Lokar cable, and slid the washers on and the pinched the Lead weight "Ferrule" on. Then I pinched the slot together to keep the cable from ever sliding up and out.
Here' a picture I found on ebay of a pedal rod (with out the gas pedal on it.) See the hole and slot?

I then used the Ferrule as I described. You may not need to depending on your Throttle linkage on your carb.

I see now that you're in a '69 bird.. I think the rod functions the same though. It looks the same, I think.
I'm in a 75.

Thanks for taking the time to further explain. If, I'm reading correctly, you basically made the Lokar cable function very similar to the stock cable, on the pedal end...

Yes sir. That's it. I removed the fancy Clevis, it screws off with a tiny set screw. And used that at the other end. Then I copied the stock cable with a lead shot Ferrule.

I have no experience with ferrueles, will they stay put with no soldering? I take it you had to buy them at a hardware store (that is, they didn't come with the cable)?

You just crimp these on really hard.. here is a page that has some. I got mine at the hardware store. No soldering necessary.

I installed the Lokar throttle cable, kickdown cable and return spring bracket. It turns out the connectors all worked fine on the factory carb studs and on the pedal arm. Where I ran into trouble is the return spring bracket. There was very little clearance and the set screw wouldn't even fit. I had to bend it slightly and it sits a wee-bit crooked- but barely noticable. The return spring was a bear to install cause the bracket butts-up against the manifold right where the hole for the return spring is located. I connected the kickdown wire to the wiper motor but didn't get a chance to test drive to see if it works. I'm really looking forward to it cause this car has never had a kickdown in the 15 years I've owned it. Thanks again and wish me luck!

The kickdown works sweet; stomping it at 30mph breaks the tires loose nicely! At 20mph, It goes sideways-fun but scary! I wonder how it would feel with 3.42's and a 2500 converter?

Awesome.
I still haven't hooked up my Kickdown.. Lokar makes good stuff.
I'm interested and it'd be helpful for reference to see pictures of how your throttle arm attached to the cable. Also, how you attached the pedal arm?
Did you actually use the clevis fastener that came with the cable? I dont know how you could do that neatly. I'll take some pictures of my Pedal end.

My pedal arm has a small pin that protrudes from the end which was good match with the clevis fastner; in fact, the factory cable had a clevis fastner as well. The pic I've attached shows the pin if you look carefully, but I couldn't get a really good view and under my dash is a mess:

Although the throttle stud isn't a "ball" the Lokar throttle cable cable clip snaps on to it and will not come off unless I pry it off. Basically, it snaps on to the stud the way it would if it was a ball stud:

Interesting! I was going to look for tap sizes and to the clevis mod to mine. On the pedal side I just cut the stock cable and slide the lokar end out the clevis then used the stock black clip and slid the cable. The Lokar comes with a big enough furrel looking like thing on the end that it works fine. I was going to cut the stock pin off but then realized the bolt\nut would hit the arm behind it. I'll see if my Lokar end attaches as well that would be sweet.

Just in case it doesn't do you remember what size tap you used? 5/16 Fine? What size drill did you use before, I've never really had to tap anything before... One downside of cutting the stock cable is now I need to get this working with the Lokar stuff no matter what

Thanks for the Pics Will. That's interesting. Not like my pedal at all. Birds and Goats must be different!

I dont recall the size of the tap..Looking at the photos I'm guessing it was a 5/16. See how that fits in the clevis.

I think the Lokar carb end was made for that carb linkage so that is a nice fit. Mine was different. The Lokar cable is nice.
