Div 4
Dwaine Davis & JB Clegg both cut really bad lights & lost. So, all the Pontiacs are out of race 1. Elims for race 2 will be on Sunday.

Chris Stephenson picked it up a bit, with a 1.193 under run. If this is correct, it puts him in the #2 position. And, he was very close to getting some added to his NHRA hp factor for his combo. I think a 1.2 under triggers an automatic hp hit.
https://www.nhra.com/results/2018/lu...ock-eliminator But. this list shows the #1 car running a 3.688. And, yesterday, Chris was listed in C/SA. On this list he is listed in E/SA. Don't think he can run C/SA, unless he is claiming a RA2 engine. At least I think Leo Glasbrenner is running a RA2. Not sure tho. So, I don't know how accurate the rest of the numbers are. We'll just have to wait til the numbers are posted elsewhere. Well, I just looked up some more info on the '68 Bird engine combos. The '68 330hp engine got a bump up to 338hp. And, if the Class Racer Info numbers are correct, the RA2 engine is only at 340hp. So, I suppose a '68 can run C/SA, D/SA, or E/SA, by adjusting weight, no matter which 400 engine they're running. And, with the RA2, they can run the round port heads & a cam with more lift. So, it's reasonable to think that the RA2 engine would be more competitive in a '68 Bird. http://www.classracerinfo.com/Engine...3&MAKE=Pontiac Last edited by ponyakr; 04-14-2018 at 12:53 PM. |

OK, those live timing numbers were apparently bogus.
Here's the final Q-list, showing Chris Stephenson in C/SA. Looks like Leo is running D/SA at this race. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop The Burtons have the highest qualified Pontiacs. Brad is #5 & Scott is #11. A 455 is on top, a 301T is on the bottom, and the 400's are in between. And, as usual, Scott's RA4 Bird has the lowest ET of all the Pontiacs. I suppose it has been the quickest Pontiac powered Stocker ever since he started racing it. Anybody know when he began racing it ? The car shows up at the 2010 US Nats, But at the 2010 Winter Nats, Scott is listed with a '71 Bird. It was probably the same car, with different trim, to comply with rules. So, maybe 2010 was the year he switched over to the RA4 engine & it became the quickest Pontiac Stocker. It is also listed as a '70 in July, at the Mile-High Nats. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2010#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 04-14-2018 at 02:51 PM. |

Brad Koivisto finished in the #2 qualifying position, in Stock.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop And Wilbert Thornton finished in the #33 position in SS. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop But, looks like both were knocked out early. http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...5&postcount=43 http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...6&postcount=44 Last edited by ponyakr; 04-14-2018 at 03:47 PM. |

Oops ! Made another mistake. I forgot about the '72 Lemans Stocker, in post #124. Sorry about that.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop I'll ask again. Does anybody have any info on that car ? If it ain't Larry Maxwell's old car, I don't know anything about it. Last edited by ponyakr; 04-14-2018 at 04:06 PM. |

Most of the Pontiac Stockers survived E-1.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r2018#indextop Unfortunately, Stephanie Pike had a heads-up run with a quicker F/SA car. When cars in the same class run, it's heads-up, no breakout racing. Scott Burton also had a heads-up B/SA race. But, Scott has the quickest B/SA in this race, according to the Q-list. Last edited by ponyakr; 04-14-2018 at 10:57 PM. |

SpringNationals
The national event this week is in Baytown, Texas.

Wow ! In Stock Q-2, Randi Lyn turned a 10.38 !
That's 1.017 under. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop In SS class competition, JB Clegg is the only car in SS/I. So, he runs against all the other stick cars, in a class they call Stick Combo. JB won C-1, with another 9.62. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop But JB cut a bad light, and/or had mechanical problems and lost C-2. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...UMMIT#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 04-20-2018 at 02:30 PM. |

Randi Lyn & Chris Stephenson both won their 1st round.
https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop And check it out: Randi Lyn cut a .012 light & ran 10.403 on her 10.40 dial. That package would be hard to beat in most rounds. JB lost his 1st round. It's tuff nowadays to win with a stick. Autos have the advantage. Right off, the only other Pontiac class racer I know of running a stick is Adam Strang. Can ya'll name any other Pontiac stick racers currently still in competition ? https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...er=30#indextop Last edited by ponyakr; 04-20-2018 at 05:32 PM. |

The only Pontiac on the Stock Q-2 List is Dave Ribeiro, with his 400 powered '77 Lemans, which was formerly a Bob Michael car.
I know the feeling of being the only racer at the track with Pontiac power. We did it many times. Just made the wins even better. http://classracer.com/classforum/sho...0&postcount=19 |

Well, Dave is not the only Pontiac guy there. The SS Q-list shows Wilbert Thornton, with his '74 T/A, & Bill Kennedy, with his '85 Bird, which I assume this is the former Vic Santos car, & hope it still has Pontiac power.

Well, Randi Lyn made it to the 3rd round, where she cut a great .009 light.
That's the good news. The bad news is that she went a tick too quick, and broke out. https://www.dragracecentral.com/DRCS...r=100#indextop |
