I drive at least 75 miles a month. Not a "daily" driver but close. I don't go out if it looks like it might rain.

I dont drive it 2.5 miles a day. When I do its 30-40 miles, so it gets plenty hot. I'm so afraid of some mindless twit, texting and running into me.

I'm confused. You said "Not a "daily" driver but close." originally. Now it sounds like you only drive it a couple times per month. |

"Daily Driver" seems to be a catch word that many use for a vehicle that is not a pure Car Show Trailered Vehicle. Maybe not a #1 or #2 vehicle but a solid #3 'Daily Driver" capable vehicle.
In some places, like Naples, Florida you might not have to drive over 35 miles to get to the local show or the "Coffee & Cars" type event. 35 miles is more than enough time for the engine to get warmed up, especially in Florida. And it does not rain at 2:00 pm every day in the dry season. So because you drive longer distances to get anyplace in MN is no reflection on his situation, Champ. My opinion. I would call it a "Daily Driver" capable vehicle that gets driven a couple of times a month to events. A nice 68 Bird is a cool vehicle to see at events. Tom V.

I fully recognize that 35 miles is more than enough time to warm up an engine. As to having to drive "longer distances to get anyplace in MN" is not true. I drove 1.5 (each way) miles to a show this year. 17 miles to another. The point I was making is that 75 miles per month isn't a significant # of miles to drive a car. |

For the record, the national average for miles traveled on a vehicle today is 12,000 to 15,000 miles per year. Under 10,000 in my book is not a daily driver. I put between 3500 and 5000 miles per year on my truck now and wouldn't think of calling it a daily driver.

I owned a 1978 Trans Am when I worked for Holley Carburetor.
I drove the car to work every morning and home every afternoon. Every work day, I would call that a daily driver. 9 miles each way. 9 x 2 = 18 x 260 = 4680 miles. So your opinion Champ and Chief's opinion of a Daily Driver is different vs mine. Lets just agree to disagree on this subject. This is AMERICA and everyone has a right to their opinion. since when did "daily driver" mean a mileage count was met?
"daily driver" is sopposed to be a quite literal term - you drive it daily...

Well, I guess my "72 Luxury LeMans qualifies since it's the only car I own/drive. Oh but wait! I don't necessarily drive every day....Does my car still qualify?

I drive it more than a trailer queen. It has been rained on. I did drive it to Jacksonville Fl for a car show, met up with the Jax Pontiac Club, 200 mile round trip. My point was, yes I actually do drive it, not keep it hidden away in a Climate Controlled Garage. I met a few guys at MCACN 2017, with rare Pontiacs, they almost seem envious that I actually "drive" my car, more than off and on a trailer. When I bought the car, it was the guys daily driver, 40 miles a day, then it was my daily driver for 3 years, while my daily was a 67 GTO. I figure if I drive it 2 or 3 times a month, that's more than a lot get driven. There is a retirement community called The Villages about 30 miles away, I hit their monthly show, top quality cars, about 200-300 cars, sometimes Don Garlits shows up in his Hemi Powered 40 Ford.

The op was asking about rare street driven Pontiacs, not "daily drivers"..... Someone should start a thread about "Daily Drivers" so as not to hijack the thread....

Agree, problem is hard to agree on what is rare, much less what is a Daily Driver, vs a Garage Queen.

I have had in my life a 64 Lemans, a 58 Chevy delray, a 64 GTO, a 63 Impala SS, a 65 Impala SS and a 77 C10 and when I had those vehicles they were the only ones I had. That’s a daily driver in my opinion. The 58 Delray remains but she has been retired and will be the next to get a frame up restoration. Oh I forgot my 59 Impala two door hardtop that I had for exactly two months when an 80 something year old woman ran a redlight and totaled it. That was before I knew about collector car insurance. The sad thing about that car was that at 19 I believed them when they said it was totaled and let the insurance company take it. The local junkman bought it and fixed it and I have to see it around town from time to time.

Only two RARE Street Driven Pontiac Combos/Owners out there today.
The TENNY/WANGERS 64 GTO Magazine Car and Tom S RA-V Engines in vehicles he put together. They are real street driven RARE cars. So how many posts do you need to mention TWO OWNERS/ Their CARS? Of course the thread got sidelined. Notice, I said today. A Very Nice Royal Bobcat 65 GTO owned by one of our 64-65 Forum members is RARE but is presently TODAY sitting in the Museum for a year on the other side of the state. Not street driven TODAY Tom V.
