Tom, could be due to the holidays.(?) The shop I deal with is a bit slower to finish work this time of year with employees taking/using up vacation days etc. Just a thought.

Tom,

Standard Pontiac dowel pins? I think a month to install dowel pins and partial fill of the block IS a bit long.

... i'm afraid i disagree with that part, the 301T blocks are considerably more beefy than the std. 301 blocks, which is why they stopped making the std. blocks, too many issues ...

... as you can see, these blocks were in fact very nice castings, and my stroker 434/301T project has very thick mains, and is right with the thickest blocks Pontiac had made, at least the ones we've measured over the years, not saying its the thickest, but surely not the smallest ...
Did you weld up the water holes in the deck? And its that valley brace welded in, too? Very nice. I was going to ask Tom, what is he doing about the 301/400 head gasket misalignment? The D-Port heads do NOT cover the water holes on the 301 block!

A small chamber aluminum head with its parallel cast edges would work on a stock 301 block with 301 gaskets. The Pontiac D-port heads leave considerable area uncovered on a 301 block.

I have had this build in my mind since old discussion over on CP years ago, "301->500HP?" My build was/is a 4.060, 3.75, SBC 6 rod, SBC piston, hydraulic roller in the 230 range, KRE 76cc D-ports, and a custom T2 just like you made, but with a 180deg divider added to the plenum. My target was 450hp. Cheap build using off the shelf SBC parts. Only custom work would be the crank. And the aluminum heads.

Tom, I was asking "77 Trashcan" about his lifter valley reinforcements on the 301T block pictured on page 5 or 6. Looks like he welded up the block holes, but even with that, the D-Port head water holes wil be uncovered at the top of the block and, IIRC, below the 4,6 and 3,5 exh ports. Chek it out b4 going any furthur!

Jeff drop a 301 head gasket on or a 400 gasket and see what it looks like. Mopar mid - late 70's 440's water holes were way different than early blocks yet early head and gasket work fine.

BTW dont underestimate what can be done with the standard slow drying JB Weld if need be. (the adhesion, strength, heat, and oil/fuel/coolant resistance are well within needed capabilities here with proper prep and mix.)

BTW pics on page 5 are Bills (twinturrbo406) "frankenstein" motor. Pics DO NOT really show just how well this particular block is done. The welding and other details are amazing. You need to see it in person to fully appreciate it.

Block is at Joes, neither he or the machine shop saw a issue with the larger water holes in the block. The gasket has the holes that line up with part of them and match the head. Not sure why the factory made them larger unless added cooling for the turbo engines?Joe will now work on the crank fit with the bearing spacer, once done we order rods and pistons.Tom

Not to ignore or discount the innovative idea of a 301-based stroker build, if I were to build a small bore Poncho I would bypass the durability issues of a 301T block and use a .030 over 350P. My recipe would also a 230 degree hydraulic roller, 290 cfm KRE 72cc heads w/ 2.08/1.66 valves for a 9.6:1 SCR to run on 87, some Probe flattops and PPR 4340 A-beams- other than some block chamfering, it would be a straightforward build and require no special machining or modified parts.
