The 'M' was a designation for yard personal to determine method of shipping. 'M' was for Motorcar Transport which trucked cars to destination. All Pontiac produced cars built for dealers in the upper midwest(Chicago/Detroit/Milwaukee) were shipped by truck by Motorcar if dealer stock or customer ordered. The old 'blue' window stickers had a seperate sticker that was on left quarter glass and usually had window sticker applied right over it.

My car came from Michigan by truck, no trains involved. But it sounded like a good explanation.

I FOUND IT !!!!!!!! Just got off the phone with Robert, the original owner of the phantom 1972 GTO convertible. He still owns it, with the exception of a repaint it's still all original (even the tires). And get this only 20,000 miles. Robert was kind enough to give me the whole story. As everyone had believed, it left the factory as a LeMans Sport Convert. He was able to get the Pontiac Zone Office to print him the GTO Option window sticker (that's why it looked so correct). Robert wants to stay out of the lime light and not put his car out on display. Sidebar: Stupid me, he came up and talked to me at the 2012 POCI Convention and I didn't realize who he was.

Awesome Bill! That was pretty good evidence at first! I guess back in 72 it was no big deal to pull some strings and get a sticker printed from PMD. Never happen these days.

You're right Norm. I have a friend with a 77 TransAm, when it was new he went to Pontiac and got a duplicate window sticker from them. Mark still has the car and it's an unrestored Survivor.
