I just got the PHS for the car. It seems to be a pretty basic car.

Here are a few random pics as well.

The shot of the floorpan is where I cleaned a spot. It is in great condition under the oil and has the original black with white overspray. After we get the engine and trans out it will be going to get the engine compartment and undercarriage steam cleaned.

The 8 track player showed up today and works perfect. It is the exact unit that was installed in the car in 1972.

Cool deal, that 8 track!

I couldn't read the options on the PHS report (other than the T/A option) could you please post what those are?

Again - congrats! What a cool ride you've got!

4 speed, Rally 2 wheels, T/A option, P/B radio and Softray Glass?

That's pretty much a stripper T/A...way cool. I love the no console look - to me, that just screams "I'm all business!"

This is definitely one time I am grateful for oil leaks. I just wished it would have leaked on the front suspension and subframe as well.

They just needed to drive it in reverse more often and at high speed.

From the looks of all the dings in the gas tank, I think the owner may have tried.

We got the trans out today, what a greasy mess. It is matching #'s as expected and hoped.

I will finishing cleaning it up along with the bell housing tomorrow. We should also be pulling the engine tomorrow.

Here are a few pics of the trans. I found one purple paint dab on the trans side cover and one yellow dab on the lock out rod.

Hi everyone,

We got the engine pulled today and had an interesting surprise. The vin on the block doesn't match the car. I must say that I do not believe for a second that it is not the original engine in the car. I will explain with pics in a moment. I will first start off with pics of the engine being removed, photos of it on the stand and then finally pics of all of the numbers and date codes.

Before I get flamed for not checking the block before I bought the car, I can assure you I had and still do not have any reason to believe the engine has ever been out of the car including all statements from the original owner and the fact that the majority of the bolts in the car have not been touched before we removed the engine today.

But in case I am totally wacky about this I will say I would have bought the car for what I paid even if it did not have an engine.

Lots of pics to follow.

Here are the engine numbers:

Block casting # and date-9790071 E149

Heads # and date-48 E089

Intake casting # and date-9794234 D249

Exhaust manifold left-9779495-1 A139

Exhaust manifold right-9797073-1 L048

Alternator-1100832 9A9

Starter-1107355 9A24

and the VIN on the block is-19N663973

Is that even a V8 VIN?

Unless someone dropped in another motor before the original owner took delivery I do not think it is not the original engine.

But if it is the wrong engine I will now have a one owner Trans Am with the wrong engine. I can live with that
