Thanks Tom and Jack and I sure hope you can get some real exhaust through them soon enough. I know you will .
We got the next two finished (2" inlet, 2.25" outlet) and tested this afternoon. I will have some photos to share after we get the inlets and outlets expanded and the relief slots milled. These work very well and have a 9 to 10 DBA difference across the rpm spectrum on my 340 Cuda.

Shipped another set last week. These are the true VOE GTO size: 2" in and 2.25" out. These had about an 11 dBA sound level differential on my 340 due in part to lower sound levels in the closed mode because of the 2" inlet. The car they went on is a true 70 GTO convertible with a bit of worked over engine. Not too sure if it is the OEM 400 or a 455 but allow me to share his comments from his first trials early today. By the way, found out FEDEX ground delivers on Saturday. Cool.

"Tom:
Couldn't stand the suspense, had to put them on. I have replaced a lot of mufflers but never one's that fit as perfectly as these. They slipped on just right, not loose or tight but like a machined part. So far as the VOE (option) is concerned, they are incredible. As soon as I pull the switch, they are open. With my cam, they just crackle and bark. When I push the switch in, there is a one second delay, and they are as quiet as a new car."

It is great to hear this and I am glad that on the Pontiac, they sound and work like they should. A test drive should be forthcoming and we can get a good opinion to share then.

Tiger option alive and well on a GTO! Fantastic!
What part of the country does it reside?

Ty, very glad to hear you made it safely. I hope you get to chat with Ally and the Little Ty often while you are away at work. Thanks for taking your time on two trips to stop through.

Tom - I guess this new muffler means you'll have to record a sequel to "Silent Power".
By the way, I recently sold out of your CD at the Sound Exchange - you are back on the Billboard charts with a bullet !! Seriously, got any more ?
Congrats on the muffler, very cool

Hey Tom:

They look GREAT!

Nearly makes me wish I had a '70 GTO to install some on, LOL!

Maybe I'll put a pair on my WW5 car just for fun. Remember, I do still want a pair - in the OEM GTO configuration - when you have the time.

We'll have to continue to work on getting Gardner to "step up to the plate" and add these to their product line, with an OEM appearance of course.

BTW, have your flow tests been completed?

Jim, I am out but I have the master. I would be willing to let you copy and create artwork and be my exclusive distributor, assuming PY runs out soon. .

Here is the VOE GTO car running mufflers # 11 and # 12. He is in the process of getting some of the early 70's stuff back off (headers and ladder bars maybe) and putting it closer to stock. He got to drive it some and here is what he had to say:

"Now to the good part; when the mufflers are open they sound great. I run them this way most of the time (it is a convertible so with the top down, the loudness is not an issue due to wind noise: Toms thoughts). The sound is a deep, mellow, with a slight crackle when it idles. It sounds really throaty and not really that loud. It kind of reminds me of the glass pack mufflers we used to hang right off the headers, but without the raspy sound. They sound so good I don't even turn on the radio. When they are closed, they are whisper quiet."

And this is what we have been trying to achive!

Hey Tom- When I get Wangers' "Bandit" Suburban here, I'll be tempted to stick my VOE's on it, rather than just admire them lying in my garage. But the flow figures (with them closed) make me wonder if they would severely choke the 455 in the "Bandit". What do you think?

Hey Jack,
Do not forget that when opened, they flow as much as a 2.5" Flowmaster even though they are not that large inside. Worst case, at WOT, you might lose a tenth of a second on a 12.50 car. I'd sure try them!

Wanted to offer another VOE report. We have finished the last two, stock-sized units for a true VOE GTO. With 2.25" stock 340 Cuda tailpipes with factory square chrome tips, these are the sound levels I recorded, all from 10 feet.

idle (600 rpm): closed 69 dBA, open 78.
2200 rpm: closed 81 dBA, open 91
3500 rpm: closed 88 dBA, open 99.

They sound tough when open and almost dead stock quiet when closed.

We also made a new audio recording of these and will have it added to the PYPE's site and we took video that lets you hear the sound change while watching the actuators in action. We will see if it too can be added to the PYPE's site.

Take care,
Tom

I have another really cool video/audio recording that shows these in action. If anyone can help me by posting a 3.5 meg clip, I would greatly appreciate it .
Thanks!

Wanted to brag a bit more; I just got back from a trip to hear the first set on a true VOE GTO. The car has not run for seven years but once he got it running and idled down, I got to pull the Tiger Button. I felt not quite as cool as the guy in the silver GTO driving through the drive in back in 1969 but it was indeed "Humbling".

Pulling the button, you hear a mild rattle as the valves open to the max and holy cow is the exhaust loud!! They sound so quiet when closed but they are so loud when open. Perfect!!!

Not sure why but it may be the big tips on the 70 GTOs maximize and amplify the difference. It made 13 dBa difference at slightly off idle and it was incredibly loud a ways into the rpm range. I have to admit that the driver's side muffler had a slight rattle when open; apparently it needs a slight adjustment to its actuator but it will be simple to do.

I hope you others that have these will find some time to install them and listen how they work. Let's hope they work as well on yours as they do on this true VOE GTO. I will post a few images after I unload them from the camera.

Tom
