The way I deduced the one HP per Cubic Inch Theory:
1) I Have 376 HP to start.
2) Cold Air Induction, according to my poor memory gave an extra 28-30 HP by a Formula process, I wish I could find that Formula.
3) 376 HP is a 1967 428 ci Engine on top of the Quadra- jet Carb.
4) I give the 428 ci a HP rating 390 on top of the up-jetted Tri-Power Carb. set-up!
5) With MSD Multi-spark Ignition, Dual Headers and Exhaust, upgraded to "041" Cam and Electronic Distibutor is the best it can run, all adds to 8 HP.

390+30=420+8= 428 HP About?

As I said, I would think this Motor could develop 428 HP (NOW) with the New Internal parts I have installed because it runs like it is New. Also, since I bought this Engine second hand, I have" not" had the Heads off yet. It runs too good to mess with. This Engine was said to be Stock, but then again why did it contain a Tri-Power Cam and Intake Manifold and 1966 Tri-Power Carbs off a GTO? Yes, according to my research these Carbs. numbers they were used on the GTOs.

Let's figure That the Tri-Power Intake Manifold is not Ported or polished at all, what is the CFM Flow then?

Mike wants to know:
"Is that one of those rare Ram Air five that, I think Pontiac Decked the 389 or 400 ci Blocks to make"?
Used in Trans AM.

Here are some fun videos to watch the old Trans Am cars.

Used in Trans AM.
Rare - YES
Ram Air V - yes
Decked 389/400 - no. The 303 was made in short deck and standard deck versions. This is a standard deck meaning the deck height is the same as 389/400, but it’s reinforced and special.
Used in Trans Am series - it was intended for it, but program was killed before they could meet production requirements for homologation.

I read: 08 v = 8 cyl
303 = 303 ci
DS = code
06= 1966, as you say it is a replacement Block for 1966 cast in 1970
Sideways "J" = Place Cast or assembled.

I will have to visit my Archives that I saved from John
Wallaces site on the subject of the Ram Air 5, 6, 7. Above is the way I think it reads; I could be close with all the research on the topic. If I look at the 1961 service manual, I might find the sideways "J" actual Plant. That is where I found my sideways "P".

TraderMike, This .030+ 428HO (433 cu. in.) pulled 432 hp @ 5400 rpm, 502 lbft torque at 3700 rpm and is very stock...built for the Pure Stock Drags. The #16 heads are stock and untouched except for new stainless valves and new springs. It does have forged Eagle rods and flat top forged Diamond pistons to bring the compression up to a true 10.75, so the rotating mass is bit lighter. It has the Melling 068 cam in it with 1.5 stamped steel rocker arms. It was dyno'd with the RA manifolds since the long branch wouldn't fit on the dyno stand. We have found that the long branch manifolds are worth several hp & lbft throughout the rpm pull range (3000 to 5500), so would have eclipsed 1 hp per cubic inch easily. The pulls were made using 4' long 2.5" mandrel bent headpipes (from Pypes).

I think with a true 10.0 static compression ratio with your 670 heads, headers, a dialed in '66 Tri-power, and the 041 cam installed at 109 degrees would make 1 hp per cu. in. easily. That cam needs compression to work well and I wouldn't go any less than 10.0 to 1.

I too have seen this same document and others over the years, I am not grasping at straws now am I. Thank you for the proof that I am being reasonable in my thinking, no matter how I reason the result is my car is fast strong and becoming more reliable every day thanks to the people on the forums input asked for or read in some document somewhere.

Tom, thanks for the pictures of all the ultra cool blocks and other parts you have. It has always amazed me the rare stuff you have collected! I'm even more impressed that you're not just a parts collector. You actually build engines using the rarest of the rare, and then share the results. You da man!
