Good call. I may have overlooked the tension. With these v-belts is it possible to be too tight or should I just tighten the snot out of them?

Yes, you can tighten the belts too tight. There's a gauge for it, but I tighten them to the point where they don't squeal. Too tight is no good for bearings-alternator, water pump and engine.

congrats on getting it running and moving, that's a huge step as you know.

You have an electrical temp gauge? If so I would install a manual one to verify the temp. If you have a Digital Laser Thermometer that would help you verify the temp gauge is good.

As far as the belt, I use ~1/2" deflection on the belt, not super tight as tinindian said as that's tuff on the bearings.

It all takes time, when you get one thing fixed seems like something else goes wrong. hang in there.

Thanks guys. It is a mechanical gauge. I did a couple tests and determined that the gauge is faulty. I called autometer and i have a new one coming. I tightened up the belt some but haven't had a chance to start it again to check if the squeeling went away.

I figured it is about time for an update. I finished all the wiring. Once my new dash insert comes in I can reassemble the gauges and dash and plug the cluster harness into the dash harness. As long as I wired everything correctly the dash should all work right. All the interior lights work now too!
I recieved my new water temp gauge and tested it right out of the box. It worked so I installed it and tested it again once in the car, still worked so I'm happy with that.
My new antenna assembly came in today from the parts place and looks great. Installed quite easily besides the grommet was a pain to slip into the hole in the cowl.
I aimed the headlights on Sunday, however I had an issue with one of the low beam buckets. One of the tabs where an adjustment screw goes is too weak and keeps bending back once I almost get the height set so I will have to source a new bucket. I did get the passenger side completed and installed the new bezel. Looks real good!

I also got all small leaks fixed besides one pesky oil pan drip I tightened up the power steering belt a little bit and the squeeling went away completely. (Thank you for the suggestion!)
I will be ordering my weatherstrip kit this week as well as a complete glass kit. I took some "0000" steel wool and Mothers Chrome Polishing compound the the frames on the vent windows before I have the glass removed. The frames look almost brand new. There's a few other parts that I will do this to and see how they turn out. If there's to much pitting in some parts I will have to send them out to be Replated.
Right now I have a guy coming the first week in April to install the headliner; however I may try to move that date up sooner because I am slightly ahead of schedule.
I'm sure there's a few other things in missing yet but progress will continue!

Meant to say if you take any pics when installing the new bezel. Who did you purchase the bezel from? Sorry if I missed it in an earlier post. Sometimes I don't pick up reading where I left off. Great thread been following since you started.

I have to install the driver side bezel yet so I'll take a picture before I put it together. I'm assuming you want to see how the adjustment screws and parts should look? I bought new repop bezels through summit racing. I believe they were OPGI brand. The body guy fit them while he was repairing the fenders but he said the fit was very good. The chrome is very good on them as well. I had 1 small scratch that polished out easily with "0000" steel wool and Mothers chrome polish.

Thank you for the support!

When you tighten up the belt, lay a straight edge across the pulleys. About 1/2" play is good. Just push down on the belt and measure.

Charles, here is a picture of the inside of the fender before the headlight bezel is put on.

I have the low beam out right now since my low beam bucket was too weak by the adjustment screw. So I'm currently trying to find a replacement.

Gary, that's what I ended up doing, I have roughly 1/2-9/16" deflection. I figure once I run the car some I will go through and re-tighten the belts.

I think I have some extra buckets in my shop. But, IIRC some have a square hole and some are round. I don't think there is any difference in high and low beam buckets so let me know which style you need and I will send you one.

Sorry, I posted in the wrong thread. I should have posted in the thread you started on the Dash Bezel. It's the removal and replacement of the dash bezel i need to learn how to do as that's something i have been needing to do, but am dreading. Never can have enough photos they make great reference material. Thanks for taking the time to document your restoration. I wouldn't be able to do any of this stuff if not for folks like you.

I didnt have a whole lot of time to work on the car this past week. I need to get the front bumper polished up some before I install it. Otherwise I mostly worked on the dash. My new insert came in on Wednesday however the vinyl was ripped next to the radio. I emailed Ames and they quickly had a new one on the way. Showed up Saturday! Fit however left much more to be desired. I had to do quite a bit of trimming to make a good fit. I used my 4" grinder with a flap wheel which worked very well for trimming down the aluminum backer. Just had to be very careful and steady.

I prefit the new repop dash before I installed the gauges and it fit very well. Once I mounted the gauges and heater I got the dash in place. I connected all the wiring and the speedometer cable. Then I fought the heater cables for about 6 hours total. It didn't help I had the wrong ones in the wrong places. Also I had to do make all the cable adjustments and fight to attatch the cables to the heater control.

Tomorrow I'll finish attaching the dash pad then tuck the rest of the wiring and zip tie it in place. Then reinstall the steering column. Next I'll start polishing exterior trim until the headliner gets installed.

Monday night I finished putting the dash together, tucked all the wiring and tested everything. Everything works right, even the line lock! Lol

I got the front bumper in place. I spent about 2 hours trying to fit it the best I could. It's an Oem bumper that appears to have been replayed in 2002. It had quite a twist in it and I got most of it out. There was a little but I just couldn't get out. The overall fit is about a 6/10. I'm sure I could spend a few more hours to get a better fit but I do plan on replacing it in a few years since it is showing its age and wear. Overall appearance 8/10. Good for a driver though.

Also put on the front fender rocker extensions. Probably the easiest piece of assembly this far lol

Besides this I installed the trunk weatherstrip which went quite well.

I took Friday off of work since I have to finish insulating the addition on my house and I will have some spare time to work on the car!

It's been quite a while since I updated. I haven't really gotten to much done since I've been really busy with the addition to my house. When we were drywalling the garage I had to pull the car out so here's the first time I officially drove the car! Only 20 feet but it moved well. We threw some boards over the mud since my driveway is a mess

Last Monday the headliner went in. The guy did an excellent job and will be coming back next week to finish the sail panels and package tray

I finally started polishing trim. I finished the windshield moldings so far as well as the rear scallops for the tail panel.

I also got the roof rail channels in and weatherstrip as well as the new quarter windows. This week I will be polishing the rear window trim and hopefully the front and rear windows will be getting installed. I tried making a carpet for an automatic work for my 4-speed car. It was not happening so I ordered a new one molded for a 4-speed.

If anyone needs a new black carpet for an automatic let me know. Does have a hole cut for the shifter but if you have a console it should get covered up.

I moved forward quite a bit theist couple weeks. The majority of the interior is finished. All that's left are the inner door panels. But I need to put the door glass and vent windows in yet.
Tuesday he headliner guy came and finished putting in the sail panels. Package tray, and gave me a hand with the sunvisors and rearview mirror.

Wednesday the guys came and installed the front and rear windows! This really brought the car together.

Friday night I got all of the seats and seatbelts put in! I wrapped the seats when I was about 14 years old. They look pretty good for me but I will be redoing the rear seat next winter with more foam and new springs. Also the passenger seat will get new springs and the driver seat new springs and foam.

Jenna testing out her seat!

It's looking more and more gooder!! What rear springs do you have? It looks like your car is sitting up a little more in the back than the front.

Thank you! I'm hoping I'll be driving it within the next 3 weeks. The rear springs are moog replacements. I don't remember the part number off hand. The fronts are the originals so I suspect they're sagging some. There is 3/4" of rake measured from the floor to the top of the wheelwell. And from side is less than 1/8" difference.

I plan to upgrade to full coilovers within the next few years after I build the 428 for this
