Thanks...

I think they might use a small metal "sleeve" that the short studs on the back of the emblem go in...does this ring a bell to anyone who has had the trunk emblem off lately?

You need a barrel nut.

One of the few remaining pieces from my first car, a 71 T-37 but I can’t recall if this was from the fender or trunk lid as it has been over 30 years. There are two short studs on the back and I think the barrel nut is accurate too.

Have photos but they won’t load.

I managed to dig up my original trunk emblem, and the answer was still on the back:

Same to you. We've got to keep some T-37s out there...I can already hear people asking me, "What is that, a Chevelle?" even though it will say "Pontiac" and "T-37" all over it. Oh well.

I agree, and I get that every time I drive my 72 LeMans. It gets called everything but what it really is. I don't even bother anymore, I just smile and wave. Haha

I haven't driven mine in a LONG time, but I remember half the people would ask if it was a Chevelle and the other half would say GTO. I'm looking forward to those conversations again

I get the "dog with the sideways head" look. Got 2 today on a 12 pack run, added stabil so I needed to drive it and (more importantly) needed beer. I also hear "nice pontiac". I still need to do the deck lid emblems though...
