A little insight...
-None of the repop weatherstrips are exact. However, they all seam to work ok. We have used alot of soff-seal stuff because they are local and I get one heluva deal. -You need the rest of the fender brace. No question, No option, No brainer! -Candy paints cannot be touched up... period... ever... -trimtags.com sells the exact, correct trim tag rivots. -A/C core supports are the same as non A/C. You will play hell getting the condensor behind the radiator with the nose intalled. It can be done.

Well I have been working on my car that past week or so on and off trying to get the gaps the way I like. I got some new weatherstrips in and put them on the doors so I could finish with my adjustments. Next I will get the hood, front bumper cover and lower valance in place and marked before I disassemble it again and start priming and cutting everything in.

Well I hope everyone had a good holiday. I took a little time off but the past couple days I continued with fitting of the hood, front bumper and lower valance. I purchased a repop lower valance from our supplier here because my old one was pretty dinged up and thought it would be cheaper for me to just replace it rather than fixing my old one. I am fighting with the fit though to the fenders. The body contour does not seem to match up with the fenders so I am going to get my old one out of storage and fit that one up to see if it is any better. I attached some pictures of my progress. If anyone replaced and used this type of lower valance let me know your findings thanks.

I just finished fitting aftermarket valance and had same problems. What I found was the holes along bottom to rad support all wrong. Try bolting valance to fenders without any bolts along bottom and check out how far the holes are out. I ended up welding shut and re-drilling. Also valance crome area is too wide. The contours are not even close. The crome will fit but it's not supported like an original valance does. I have the hidden head light grills and when set in place they would flop around with no support on outside edges. I ended up cutting outside of licence plate area and narrowing the gap about 1/8 inch or so and a bit of reshaping at park light area. Bend in towards centre. Also bolt holes to fender for top 2 lined up ok but not the 2 holes to wheel well area.(relocated) I have an NOS valance to compare with while doing these mods. Don't throw away your old one yet. I used the NOS one to fit the car then removed it, set aftermarket one on car then made it fit the same. Not too bad compared to the garbage aftermarket fenders. (That an other long story) Hope this helps and good luck. |

Well I put the original valance back on and I think that is the one I am going to go with the fit is nice all I have to do is weld up a couple tears in the metal and fix some dents. It will take me less time to do that then mess with this repop one I bought.

I have a quick question regarding body mount bushings. Are the body mounts the same between a 69 GTO and a Chevelle a-body? They seem to be the same except for the radiator support mount. Any insight will be very helpful.

I believe they are, I remember reading it somewhere, but better to have someone else to confirm.

Well I purchased new radiator support bushings for my car, when they came in I compared it to the ones I previous bought and they were quite different. The correct ones were not as thick. Installed them and now the gaps are more to my liking, what a relief.

Well been still working on the fenders and now the hood. Had to strip the hood down which was a battle, I believe whoever sprayed this car prior must of put imron on it because this crap was bulletproof. After about a day of stripping and cleaning it up I was then able to epoxy it. Here are some pics of my progress.

Chipper...great work! It's definitely inspiring to see all the effort you're putting into it. I'm just starting on mine and have a long road ahead of me. It won't be near as nice as yours...but it'll do for a nice driver : )

Thank you I appreciate it. One thing i strongly recommend when doing any restorations is take a lot of pictures. It's cool going back and seeing the before and after pictures. Also I find it helpful to reference back to. Good luck with your project.

Hey all I have a quick question maybe someone can help me with, I replaced the floor with the intention to put bucket seats in it instead of the bench seat that I have. My question is the floor I installed came with the seat mount brackets for buckets seats already installed but will my bench seat bolt up to those outer brackets. I want to put the bench seat back in and later down the road when I find some nice buckets then make the switch. Thanks for any help I can get.

Does anyone by chance know if my bench seat will bolt up to a floor that has the bucket seat brackets in it?

Bench seat should bolt right up. they only use the outer holes. 4 holes on drivers side. 2 on the back and 2 on the front each side. The inner holes /or brackets near the tunnel are not used with a bench.

Well I am getting closer to having the the front bumper, fenders and hood to my liking before I seal the whole car and then start disassembling for cut in and spraying the under side.

Chipper...looking great! How big of a pain has it been to get the nose gaps set? I've still got to do this and I'm not looking forward to it. Can't wait to see your car finished!

Well I was first thinking of painting it a sunburst orange color, but we just sprayed a flare for a Harley which was a real rich maroon with gold flake metallic. In the sun it looks amazing. As of right now it only comes in solvent but I plan on doing a spray out and take it to my friend that works at the training center for PPG and see if we can duplicate that color in their envirobase waterborne line. I took pictures of the color I will post later. |
