Now you'll have to polish the top of the head or paint it to help show it off. Might enhance oil flow back to the sump.

I don't mind making these at all

...until you have to spend 2 hours with an exacto knife cutting out the gasket
RTV might be the way to go in the future, but won't make it easy to remove 'em

Just scored a set of new elite valve covers for $60 shipped with a pair of new rubber gaskets. The adventure begins......thanks for the motivation and ideas Clay. I'll try to post pics when I get to this project, which hopefully wont be too far off. Still getting the rear in place after a gear change to 3.08's and the rear disc conversion.

Well, I started my project this morning. First thing I had to do was find a decent way to cut out the valve cover tops though......so I bought this vintage craftsman scroll saw (the manual actually says jig saw) from the 1930's that someone had taken the time to refurbish. Got it for $75. It can take any blade up to 8", and that leaves a cutting capability of over 3" thick........so I'm using bandsaw blades that I cut to size. It has a 24" arm, but even more importantly the blade can be turned sideways to rip an object of any length. The head can be removed entirely and files inserted in the bottom chuck. Find me a modern saw like that.....lol.

So after drilling some relief holes near the edges of my pattern to insert the blade though, it took me all of 15 minutes to cut this section out. Obviously I'll need to go back with a large hand file and smooth my edges, but for my first attempt it went well.

When I get the other side cut, I'll need to take the dremel to the remaining ridges around my breather hole. I'll take a hole saw to cut my polycarbonate when I get to that stage.

Clay, I hope you dont mind that I'm posting in your thread...didnt seem to make sense to make a new one, and of course it was your idea!

nice, nice!
No complaint at all with adding to this thread: appreciated, even!

I think I'm going to have to mimic you and leave the breather hole on my next pair - a little more complicated, but probably worth it

I've been taking my titime with mine. Two more sets in the works: still mostly untested on all of them

Thank you....might be next week before I get a chance to play with it again. Also you could leave an area uncut on one end if you prefer, and just mill down the ribs, cut a hole for the breather......so your breather would be on the ends.

I might be getting myself a powder coating setup....if I do I might powder coat these. Question is, what color. Thinking yellow intake, yellow valve covers with clear tops. Yellow goes well with blue. Kevin at CSU said he could powder coat the carb for me too for $150, so I'll think about that over the winter.

Then I have this March Serpentine belt track system for the front of the motor this winter too.....guy had it on this showcar for about 200 miles. Should look pretty nice with the valve covers.

Odd, I just posted and it didnt appear. Let's try again. Heres the latest....a bit of progress, much more smoothing to go. Area around the breather is going to be the toughest. Someone suggested maybe using tempered glass instead of polycarbonate...hmmm. Can you get tempered glass with that film to prevent shattering?

Theres a pic of me giving everyone the bird......

Go with a powdercoat that can match your engine to the out side of the car. Each his own taste, but yellow doesn't go with blue-never has, never will in my opinion.

Outside of the car will change when I can afford it. But yellow and blue do go together....look at the Blue Hens football team....university of delaware. They call it gold but its yellow. But we'll see.....lol

I've noticed mine scratch reasonably easily.
Not too easily, but easier than I'd like

i've thought about putting glass over the lexan, so that if it cracks/shatters, it falls to the ground and not into the engine
...added complication, though

I didn't see that other picture either, at first
Kevin powdercoated my CSU carb. It's quite nice. His powdercoater is a bit expensive, but nice product

I was really thinking glass less for scratch resistance than oil resistance...lol

That looks great. Did you have the NY guy do yours? That guy in NY was advertizing carb powdercoating on ebay for $70 including return shipping. Only catch.....had to be COMPLETELY disassembled. I believe Kevin will disassemble for $150........and I'd lean toward trusting him with his own carb as you mentioned....lol

Thats nice too. How is it as far as blow thru workmanship? Does it keep air/fuel misture where it belongs?

the 'other' brand? Did well until about 6lbs of pressure, then too lean for my taste (13-1)

The CSU one: not sure
Car in Ohio, me in NC....trying to get it shipped down here to play with it
I have large hopes for it, though...dual BRPV's

Yeah...I'd be getting out of it fast. Did you talk to them about it?
