I don't have a stock hood and have issues. My cowl air cleaner is setup for a torker 2 with a one inch spacer and works great. When I go up in height I use an air pan setup with a small filter for the street and no filter for the track..Always a battle with these cars..Years ago when I had a stock hood I was determined to run a shaker with a one inch spacer on a Torker 2 ,I stared at the car for an hour wondering how? The top of the carb was even with the top of the firewall! Once I got it figured out it was worth 2 tenths and 2 mph.

I believe you have the same hood a buddy ran on his TA some thirty years ago. He referred to it as "Turbo Hood". I figured out a way to fit a T2, two stages of nitrous with a 1" spacer and now an additional 1/4 in spacer. I always liked the "stock" look with this car. The picture shows the scoop a bit low... Before the addition of that 1/4 spacer
I lost two tenths and two mph on the red car going with the "stock" looking hood. Before that I used a factory Formula hood with a molded in forward facing Pro Stock style scoop.. Just the opposite of your gains. Keep up the good work! Last edited by PAUL K; 02-10-2024 at 10:29 PM. |

A tid bit for interest, and related in post # 81 by ta man and his comment:
"When I go up in height I use an air pan setup with a small filter for the street and no filter for the track" I have a factory shaker hood scoop molded onto my fiberglass hood. My air cleaner assembly goes up inside the hood scoop with the Victor intake. It's a small K&N 9-inch diameter filter with X-stream filter top. After the last cam shaft change we put the car on a chassis dyno. While at the dyno shop for interest I wanted to know the horsepower loss with the filter. With the filter it was 591 HP at 6000 rpm to the rear wheels. Removing the filter it was 608 hp at the same 6000 rpm. This with the current direct port fuel injection set up. .

I have a 1/4x3/8 spacer on my TA with a shaker base and scoop-mainly to level the Shaker . it does pick up 0.2 without a filter in the base-first time I did it was a night TNT and lean popped out he scoop in the dark when i did a dry hop when the mixture was tuned for the filter! Flowed good enough to run 124 weighing 3750 .

Brian,
Gach has not replied to my post. I used information from a dyno sheet that he posted sometime ago. I am guessing that it is the dyno test he is talking about above. Gach can post the dyno sheet if he wants. This is what is on the dyno sheet. Larry's Auto Machine Stonington CT Engine Type: 505 Carb: 1050 Dom Customer: Lou Gaccione Stan

I'm tempted to swap intakes at the track especially if its at TMP..I can usually get more runs in and the track is better and the pit area is better. I'm excited to get out this year, last year was the first not doing any track testing. I know even without swapping intakes the car has a 10.60 or quicker in it in decent weather. The car has 60 footed half a tenth quicker than my best et in my signature. I would like to see some 10.5's this year and 128's for mph but I need the track time..car doesnt get quicker sitting or myself sitting at the laptop lol, I need to feel the frustration and joy of the dragstrip!

It will most likely be mid summer before the intake swap test at the dragstrip. I just installed Wilwood Dynalite Pro Series front brakes which dropped 12 lbs off the rotor/hub assembly on each side. I'm also switching from a clutch fan to a dual Derale setup with a new aluminum rad. It will be interesting to see if the car picks up a little with less rotating mass and electric fans.

Planning on my first track outing next Friday August 9th. Its a day event put on by a large "old school" car club. I swapped the Northwind intake on last weekend and have a few miles on it. It works really good on the street with the trusty old Holley 950 HP on it. I managed to fit a one inch spacer on top with a 3.25 height air filter..the filter may be a restriction but the track should show that.
I also have quite a few miles on the new electric fans and Cold Case rad everything seems dialed in now with the controller..just need to hook up a manual switch to run them at full speed if needed. The new Wilwood brakes and lines and hoses seem to work pretty good...pedal feel is excellent. I will try and remember to do a fuel mileage test on the way home..a local Pontiac buddy Wayne is getting 20 to 21 mpg with the same head cam package and 342 gears..I know a few years ago I was at 17 or 18 with 308's

80496. One of our local carb guys swears by this carb..always wants to buy it or for me to loan it out..It runs neck and neck with my ProSystems 1000cfm carb. It is just a great responsive street carb. I think it only flows 830cfm.

Looking forward to your results! I have a NW and a T2 to go with the 310 KREs - unfortunately can’t fit the NW w/1” spacer under the flat hood of my 66 unless I use a 2” air filter element.

Well, the weather forecast scared me off..so I made plans with the family...so nothing...It turned out it was a good day at the track..feel bad I missed it but I had a good weekend with the family. I have to get to the track very soon..its been a while..I did order a new set of tires today as my current ones may be good for one track outing if I get quite a few passes.
