You've got some insane metal-working skills. Great work.
Your car is about on part with mine in terms of rust out. I know exactly what you meant when I read "3 layers of rust" at the base of the windshield- brutal repair. Yours was definitely worse than mine in that area though. Dismantling that fender and grafting though...wow. Hats off to that bit! -J

Kind words, thanks Judas. Though necessity is the mother of invention. I would have much preferred to be working on a better set of originals.
Struggling with gaps at the moment, though hopefully not to far from paint.

It's a great moment in the gradual re birth of a convertible. All went well, one small hiccup, but all good now. Frame was blasted, repaired, and epoxied. Hydraulics all tested and re assembled. Such a nice change to re use some original parts. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's been a bit slow getting these panel gaps sorted, so I thought I might get the header bow ready, happy with the result. Can anyone let me know where the back of the ashtray is secured? Maybe onto the bracket for the radio?

I was in between jobs on the project so I decided to have a crack at the upholstery. It was all pretty nasty really, but a good Sandblaster and some epoxy worked a treat. Had a pro fix some busted springs and I got the hog rings out. Such a tedious job, but satisfying once done. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I this kept me occupied for a while , but after some thought and design, I was able to adapt a power antenna off a hardtop to suit a convertible. A lower adaptor was inserted by lowering the original a little, and a new upper adaptor made and ground to suit the angle. All thanks to Scott T for helping make it happen. So we are almost up to date. This was last weekends work, I converted my shop into a temporary booth, and had my painter cut in the door jambs and undersides off all pieces. I couldn't be happier with the color. During this week we will be assembling, and doing a final block down on Friday arvo, then a short flat bed ride to a booth nearby for the final paint job. The colour is Ruby Red, which is a base red coat, two tinted clear coats, then two clear coats over all that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

what did you buy for seat components? I did my seats years ago & I reused mostly original insides as it was in pretty good shape. But, I have a few wrinkles because of it. Just not enough padding. I will be taking them back apart & trying something else. maybe those foam one piece inserts with the cotton filler over top? Not sure. Post more picts when you can.

Ok, so my upholstery guy supplied me with what he calls "unbacked marine carpet", this is the black material I have used instead of the burlap or hessian directly on the springs. The rear seats then had 1" foam glued and hog ringed over that. The seat bottom had polyester wadding over the foam then the vinyl cover over, the seat back just had the foam with no wadding. I'm very happy with the result, I don't have pics, tho they have turned out like new to my eye. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So with the buckets I used the same material on the seat frame, and then fitted pre made foam pieces. The seat bottom is the tricky one, check You Tube for a tutorial by Legendary interiors, there are others as well. My first attempt on these had me use wadding and the foam, this didn't work well as the wadding made it all too tight. I pulled it apart and tossed the wadding, and all good. Good luck, Dave.... 9 years!!! I can't wait that long..... tho the way I'm going you never know. We finished painting 6 months ago and I covered her up, of for a vacation then once back every spare second has gone into a house renovation. Nearly done there though now, so a little vacation riding down the 101 in July, and the fun begins again with the fit out of the interior and wiring. Then we are done.
Thanks for the kind words fellas. Marv, I had not heard of United Speed Shop, they look good. Must be for you to come up here. I will check them out. If you are driving up there, stop by my shop to see my beast. Google me at Lakeside Air, Bennetts Green. We are right on the Pacific Hwy. or PM me. Cheers, Dave. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
