Baron,

I referenced the Arlington plant, not Framingham.

dr-doug,

The reference of the 251 can be found in Box 10 of your build sheet. I'm also going to guess that your car was built on Friday, October 31, 1969.

Doug, special paint cars can be any formulized color in the world that was available in that day and time. They were not limited to the given year model color selections of the car manufacturer. Such as Mary Kay Cosmetic Pink Cadillacs, Berico Fuel Service Vans (local company here - British racing green), the other 70 Judge I posted was 69 Daytona Yellow (popular 69 camaro color), and a friend of mine has a 1973 442 special paint car (his paint code is actually 'special' spelled out on trim tag) car was ordered Red 1969 Ford Mustang color - according to original owner.

He bought car from second owner in 1990, luckily my friend hadn't had title switched to his name yet. We were/are both lifelong automotive painters. A trip to Raleigh,NC state DMV office produced a copy of the front and back of the title the way the second owner turned it in when he bought car from original owner. This gave us the original owners name and address, he still resided at same address by pure total luck. The original owner told us that the 69 Ford Mustang Red was his color choice - to match his wife's car at the time. The Red offered by Olds in 73 was "too much clash against his wifes Mustang when they parked next to a 73 Cutlass Supreme that was new on the lot". He special ordered the entire car naturally - not just the color. It is 455, 4speed, 323 posi, A/C and some other nice equipment. It took First in Class and the Presidents Choice award at a Southern Regional Olds meet after restoration was done in 1992. A very rare car, the whole crowd was thrilled with it.

Otherwise my friend had 'assumed' the car was painted 1973 Corvette only Red - Millie Miglia Red, and was intending to use the Corvette color. It was neat to be involved in that finding.

As far as 'correctness' by your trim plate and PHS in a judged event, ANY color that had a formula produced in advance or up to the time your car was built would have to be accepted as 'correct' by the judging. The only colors that wouldn't be considered correct would be the available 1970 colors offered by Pontiac on the GTO in 1970 at the time your car was built.

I wouldn't blame you to further investigate my observations in comparison to others with actual affiliation to special paint ordered cars before you pick a color - just to feel certain.

My mistake Ransom - think I had a buzz that night (oops). Your former car and Dougs present car were Arlington built, which was the whole intent for that comparison.

I also have a comparison on-going of Framingham built Judges and got my plants mixed up.

I need to post a topic on Framingham on here too, not had much luck abroad. Looking into whether or not they listed specific stripe colors on all buildsheets like the the Brown 69 I posted.

Default VOE

I know this is Judge tech, but a friend of mine has or had, i havent seen him in years, a weird car. It's a 70 GTO convertible, sliver, red guts, tan top, VOE, 400 and get this "3 speed stick" with no other options, not even power brakes or steering. He swears it had 69 stripe remnants in the jambs when he stripped it. I saw the build sheet, and it didn't show stripes, but i may not have known what i was looking for. Does have power top, and i "think" it's standard on a GTO, but not sure. When he got it, it had every piece of the VOE on the car, but when he saw the pull cable, he thought it was a ram air car, and bought it with no questions. He PHS'd it and was diappointed, but Hey it was a stick shift convert. I tried to buy it,but he screwed it up, 100% numbers car. Put a 455 4 speed, and painted it red, and put black interior.

There's a '70 on eBay right now (in NJ), Altoll blue with factory '69 stripes. It's on the build sheet and it's an original paint car. Also happens to be a 455 car with 4spd and AC. Might go look at it.

A friend of mine have a 1970 RAIV GTO built 02-04-70 with the 1969 style stripes.

In build sheets box #60 (SPEC. ORD.) there is stamped MEMO and hand written B2 13.

Lower down on the sheet, under the RPO codes, there is again stamped MEMO B2 13 and after that hand written "BUILD WITH BLACK STRIPES" and after that stamped XXX CUSTOMER ORDER.

It also have a RPO code D98 PAINT STRIPE.

Just for a heads up : Doug was inquiring about a 70 Judge with 69 sword stripes, not a 70 GTO. Plenty of 70 GTO's have been documented with 69 stripes, it was a factory option. I had a Bermuda Blue example as well with the original 69 stripes intact.

Here is a copy of the buildsheet for the Car that Kenth is talking about. Also notice the KILO (export) speedometer. Neat.

I may have a picture coming on my old Judge and will see if it's good enough to post, along with the documents, in a new thread. Hopefully, the car hasn't flipped several times since I sold it. Are you out there Jason?

I'm going to RE restore my car that started this thread. I've learned alot in the past year and a half, and added 3 additional judges to the collection.

It's time to decide on a color, and whether or not I go with '69 stripe or '70. Brief recap for those interested: Special order paint car, has been painted atleast 4 times, going to be 5, remnants of '69 stripe were in door jamb area when I striped it.

What color would you paint it?
What stripe would you put on it?

I own a Red/ black vinyl top red interior '70
A Granada Gold sandlewood interior '70
and a Carousel Red black interior '69
as well as this car that has a black interior

Thanks for any imput...DW

The charcoal grey color from Rally II wheels - BC/CC.
Red/Yell/Blk eyebrows.
Red center caps.
Goodyear RWL.

Or 69 Matador Red with Red/Wht/Blk swords. Just saw a 69 Judge with this combo the other night with Blk interior, have to say - Ultra Impressive.

The stripes/decals just blended perfectly with the color combo. It's my favorite 69 Judge color set-up.

Default too many choices

How about...

Buick GSX Saturn yellow, (also Daytona Yellow)
Paint Code - ppg code 81838
With the Black yellow, red stripes

or then there is Cadillac's Nottingham Green Firemist with a metallic hue

Doug - were you able to tell what color it originally was when you stripped the paint? I skimmed thru the posts, but didn't see it. If you do know and it's not fugly, I'd say go back with what it came from the factory with.
