All good stuff; but we still have some gray areas...
Since Bruce's car does seem a unquestionably at least on of the TLB to me as well and the paperwork may never be fully understood; the next challenge will be some solid information on the potential second car. I will move on to a search for anything on the second car. |

pics of 2nd car
on my Criterion Edition DVD of TLB there are two potential pics of the 2nd GTO - one is a dusk shot of the two cars sitting at a light - the one car behind is fully camera rigged, the car sitting in front of it has no such rigging. they look like they are both waiting to turn left at an intersection, one behind the other.
the other is a looking down the side of the tow rig shot, both seem to be on there, but you just see a bit of the passenger door and door handle of the car behind. i'll figure out a way to get a screen grab, maybe someone will beat me to it. |

pics
in the dusk shot you can see the spoiler on both cars
in the tow rig shot I believe that is the 2nd GTO hanging off the back end |

I adjusted the pic contrast on the dusk shot.
Looks interesting.

I'd call that indisputable evidence.

Nice job starlightblack!
Yes I agree it is very difficult to see a spoiler on the first car; but you would have to assume there was one, and might be able to verify that form the film footage of the scene? It would also be a good deduction to figure the first car is Bruce's because he has assured us there were no camera mount welds on the frame; and I think it would be impossible not to have some after seeing this picture. So if all that is so; we are looking for the camera mount car now. |

Here's the way they put the camera on mine when they had the rear driver scenes (as I had told them no permanent holes/welds were allowed)...

Awesome! Those were the shots that I was referring to. I'm glad you were able to post them.

Yes I have seen your car before with that set up; but remember this was 1970! I solely base my assumption on the fact that they did weld the mounts on the 55; according to numerous people and that the brackets were or still are on the 55 from what I remember. |

Anyone ever thought about shooting James Taylor an email and asking him about it?

I do have contacts in the music business that could probably find him; but I wouldn't want to abuse that with such a trival matter that I am guessing he has no interest what so ever of being asked questions about it. |

I guess we'll have to get all the Orbit Orange automatic Judge owners out there to check their chassis for strange welds or mounts.

The new TLB DVD has a nice interview with James Taylor. Believe it or not he has never seen the movie? He is definitely not holding on to the TLB lore and legend.

Someone over at Classical Pontiac found the episode of Rockford Files that I mentioned in an earlier post. I believe the red GTO in this Episode is the TLB car.... notice the Keystones.

Tonight "Thunder Road" was on with Robert Mitchum starring. I only seen bits and pieces of it before. I notice the kid brother in the movie really resembles Mitchum. The credits lists Jim Mitchum as this younger lookalike. I google Jim and learn he is Robert's oldest son. Where am I going with this you ask?
It turns out Jim Mitchum was cast in TLB. He is at the drag strip late in the movie and approaches the car when Oates and Bird are sitting in it alone. Oates says something like "we have company" and Mitchum looks in the window and asked the whereabouts of someone (Taylor or Wilson). More TLB trivia. Kinda a neat conection between two of the better cars movies IMO. |

Jim Mitchum also starred in a movie called "Moonrunners". The movie "Moonrunners" was the inspiration for "The Dukes of Hazzard" complete with Uncle Jesse.
BTW - Excellent movie... I have it on video. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071854/

TLB car:
A lot of the rigging for cameras was done without welding perches even back in the 70's, just as they do these days for commercials or running footage as it's called in the industry. They basically use a series of clamps to secure the rigs to the frames of the cars and seing as the GTO's were probably on loan from GM for the movie, such rigging was used so the car was not majorly altered or added to. It's amazing how much stuff can be done without actually messing up the vehicle. For the interior shots they usually have a "buck" which is a similar vehicle that has a removable roof sides and other parts so they can get shots without the roofline or what not getting in the way. I have been on a few photo shoots and commercial shoots as well as movies where they take a regular production vehicle, mount all the rigging to it and when they are done, you'd never know what had been attached to it. We have on certain shoots, had to take doors off rental cars so we can use them for the camera car and get footage without any obstructions, as well as being stuffed into the back end of a minivan with the tailgate open too. Juat my .02 cents worth.
