I don't have a photo of it, but I have one of these 1:18 scale die cast 1961 Venturas that Ertl came out with some years ago. My real car is a Bonneville, and it's a different shade of red, but this is as close as I'll ever be able to find. I also have a bunch of old 1:25 scale AMT 3-in-1 plastic models of full size Pontiacs ranging from 1960 through 1968, with a few gaps.

I've been collecting slot cars for a long time....like a few thousand. Mostly HO and accessories. Too much to even display.

My friend had an AMT track, kinda fun because of the steering, but not fast. I was into slot cars from '65 to '68 and there were 2 tracks near me. I had one of the '66 GTO's in the beginning. This was the last car I built. Shinoda body, piano wire frame, self-rewound armature, home-made silicone tires. Always a top 3 finisher in the long races. Sold it to a collector a few years ago.

At one point in my life I had over 12,000 diecast cars in my collection. I had a buddy who would pick me up around 11pm and we would hit every Wal-Mart within driving distance. But, he had issues I was unaware of and ended up taking his life one morning. After that I quit collecting for the most part. If I went to a store I would check their die cast out and buy a Pontiac if they had one. I even left special edition cars, like Treasure hunts on the shelf. About two years after my friends death I contacted another collector and sold him everything I had except for my Pontiacs. He got a great deal and I freed up a 6' wide by 9' high by 24' long storage room in my garage. I bought two Pontiacs a couple days ago and put them in one of the plastic totes with the others.
Maybe one day I will get them out, look them over then give them to the kids in my neighborhood.

I remember buying miniature ball bearings for the Pittman motors. Drilling holes to lighten them. The Mabuchi motors. I still have a aluminum chassis jig to set your wheel base then solder the tubes. I even tried soldering aluminum tubing with some success. Brass tubes were easier.

I practically lived at the slot car track in 1966-1967. It was such a great time while growing up. I built a lot of cars, but it was very hard to build one that could beat the factory built COX LaCucaracha. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthoped...cha-1545875089

My dad and his brothers made a 1/32 scale slot car track in the basement of their parents (my grandparents) house. @sdbob - They lived in Greensburg and one uncle lives in Latrobe now.
My Uncle gave me this for Christmas one year. I re-painted it. I made this using aluminum sheet as a chassis, but never finished it.
