PontiacPetey,
I assume you meant GT cars came with ralley rims w/o trim rings. All 3 years.

The LeMans GT package (WU2) included Rally wheels w/o trim rings all the way thru '75. And possibly thru '77. I need to check my literature stash.

This engine build is really starting to wear my patience. Take a deep breath self... Local parts stores are worthless, machine shops are crappy, and vendors claim overseas parts work just fine. It seems like eveything I buy is mis-represented. This is America, dammit, and I'm through putting up with inferior service. If we lower ourselves to third-world standards, then everything our forefathers worked for is lost.

It's all bullcrap. I just spent two days driving all over town to find oil pan gaskets (in-stock) and subsequently ruin them because before I realized the aftermarket pan, regardless of how much I tighten the bolts, is completely warped. If I can see light and engine internals, do you think its will seal oil? I trusted the advice of a local Pontiac gentlemen but no more!

From this point on, all Chinese and Taiwan crap goes in the trash. It's not worth all the money I spent in the engine for some junk parts to trash it.

If you disagree, I'll make you a good deal on a new oil pan, HEI distributor and PRW rocker arms.

what's wrong with your PRW rockers?i know a couple guys running them on some big money race engines.

i have a over a dozen stock oil pans so i'll never need an aftermarket for that, but strange they are warped that bad.

I'm wound up right now... It seems like every single thing I buy, I end up buying twice and waiting for an extra week. When a vendor looks me in the eye and says its a good quality product but it turns out to be complete junk, that persons loses my confidence. Everything else he/she claims is good also becomes suspect.

In the grand scheme of the world, my time and money probably isn't that valuable... but that's not for a crap peddler to decide.

been there done that, understand what you're saying.i have a ton of things i have bought over the years, good parts, just not what helped my car do any better.

it costs me a little bit more, but most of my stuff i buy through a friend that builds motors.he knows what has worked for him,and if anything is wrong he takes care of getting the right stuff.

Agreed completely.

I had a SBC in a car years ago that I put an aftermarket Chrome oil pan on (I found out it was Chinese made when I picked it up at the speed shop who I bought a lot of parts from, and didn't want to get in a pissing match about returning it). I went ahead and installed it. It leaked everywhere. I got so sick of it leaking, I took it off and took a sledgehammer to it so it could never be used again. I put a rusty original back on and never had any trouble again. The OEM stuff is far better.

It's like when they manufacture these parts, they are happy with 'close' with the tolerances.

Default Perhaps I'm expecting too much...

Upset about my crummy oil pan, I investigated alternatives and Canton's website says:

"Canton Racing Products has been building oil pans and engine related products for racing and high performance applications since 1981. We began in a small Connecticut garage building specialty oil pans for local auto racers. The unique oil pans provided racers with the power and quality they demanded. As popularity for the specialty oil pans grew so did our selection of products. Today we offer a wide range of high performance products for racing and the street.

Attentive Sales Professionals
During our business hours every phone call is directed straight to our hard working sales team. They are happy to use their experience and knowledge in the automotive market to provide customer service, product advice, and technical support to you and your customer.

Quality Manufacturing in the USA
Our production process focuses on accuracy and reliability. Every product we make is built with the same production and quality assurance methods that we use when building parts for Ford, Roush, and Mopar.

All products are tig welded, rather then mig welded. The tig welding process takes more time and skill but ensures more even heat and penetration through out the welding process. This result is better quality welds with less possibility for leaks and cracks.

Every oil pan, valve cover, and tank that we produce under goes several leak tests.

Our oil pans and valve covers are fitted on blocks or heads several times through out the production process to ensure they easily install on their application.

Involvement in the Racing Community.
We have been actively involved in racing for decades. Over the years we have built and ran several cars and have an appreciation for the effort and dedication it takes compete.

We actively participate with clubs, schools, and other organizations in the performance automotive community. To learn about some of our partnerships see our “Trackside” link on our home page."

I took this to mean their products are manufactured in the USA and might not leak. I ordered their stock replacement pan at twice the price of the other unit and guess what... The bag had a gold "Made in Taiwan" sticker and there's no freakin way this thing was ever leak-tested, TIG welded or pressure checked. If I beat the pan enough with a sledgehammer, I may or may not get it to fit... But should I really have to do that?

I also ordered a Dorman balancer that doesn't fit. The factory was tight but grooved (seal) and the aftermarket rocks on the crank snout. The depth measurements are about .150 thou off and it won't tighten against the crank.

$250, 1 more week, and still zero progress. WTF?
