I think you are right, I should have said that.
P - Muncie 9 - model year M - Aug 28 - date Since Aug 69 would be too late for the 69 Bird, would have been 1968.

Baron, you're right about the tranny dates: They were stamped for the year of vehicle rather than the date of manufacture. It's amazing how early some parts were made. One really notices this dealing with '70 model cars.
This is like someone opening a treasure chest and all his buddies standing around to ogle what's inside. Last edited by FunctionalShaker; 09-01-2011 at 04:56 PM. |

My research has indicated that it's a 69' tranny made in 68'. If it was made in 69' it would have an extra letter. So it wasn't made after the car.

PHS Documents:
Also didn't realize that out of the nearly 1,500 Ram Air 3's made 697 of them were TA's. That means there are only about 800 "Firebird" Ram Air 3's. This one was made in Van Nuys where only 146 Ram Air manuals were made. |

So, it appears the rally rims aren't original to the car. I wonder if whoever swapped them out put the correct for 69 JKs on it? Interesting that they put the 55 amp alternator on a non A/C car. Nicely optioned car. Good it was saved. Does it have the 1 inch front stabilizer bar, like the T/A?

I'll check the stabilizer bar. Also, got the car running yesterday. It runs very smooth and after a while it got to where it wasn't smoking at all. I put in the Marvel Mystery oil (let it sit for a few days), changed the oil, put in some 100 octane since it's 10.75 compression, filed the points and it fired right up after 30 years. I have no questions that the 82k on the odometer is the correct mileage. Last edited by sehorn; 09-04-2011 at 01:58 PM. |

Hub caps sound right. You sure the rims aren't 14 inchers?

WoW thats great and amazing it cranked/ran so easy - and so good.
At minimum i'm surprised the fuel pump and carb would still function. I never liked any of the hubcaps in 69-70. Puppycaps look okay on 69's. If the rims turn out to be 14" - check all the codes and dates around the valve stems - they might be original wheels. Thanks for posting the PHS for us. Its the real deal all the way. Sure does have a lotta lights ! Always handy. |

Just curious about something on the PHS. It shows a glove box lamp, code 664, for $3.16. I was looking over on the firstgen site and their list of accessory options shows the glove box lamp is standard equipment on a 400 car if I am reading it right. So what's the deal?

That's a nice list of options. Great color combo too.

The steel wheels and hubcaps are 14" ( will post pics later, pretty ugly), not 15 as I stated earlier. The sway bar is not 1", seems to be about 3/4". |
