After all the work of completing the conversion of my in dash clock, I see that this is all I had to do! All you need is a crappy old timepiece and an even crappier housing.

Ugh. I’ve taken apart my dash 3 or 4 times (including a complete under dash harness replacement), and it’s such a pain in the ass that I shudder when thinking about pulling it out to replace a AA battery. I’m still not sure why someone would go that route, but I’d invest slightly more time on putting the battery in an easily-accessible remote location.

It is a Tempest tail panel - they had more ribs than the LeMans / GTO tail panel.

My bet is a clone. The last REAL Trans Am convertible I saw sold was in excess of $100,000.
