also, you should look at the white letters on the tires, a problem with bfg's 255/60 & maybe other sizes lately is the white letters are not white, they are a tan'ish beige color. its a defect from the chemicals in the tire mold, bfg is aware of it & i made them replace all 8 of the tires i bought due to this, as of nov of 2017 they have changed the mold process & fixed the issue. they warranty their tires for 6 years from date of manufacture so if anyone has these dingly looking tan letters its worth a call to their customer service line to request replcaements.
Discount Tire! They were having an issue finding the 255-60s.

hmmm, maybe it is hit or miss & you got lucky? can you post close up pics of the white letters & date code of these tires?

BFG is aware of the issue & will replace the tires if they have the problem & are within the 6 year warranty dates. i went through 8 tires that had the issue, actually 10 when i bought 2 more later on a rebate offer for back ups but didnt install them or wash the blue coating off for a couple years. those 2 were just replaced by BFG 2 weeks ago & they make you take them to a authorized dealer to confirm the issue. i did a google search 3-4 years ago when i first noticed it & there are lots of complaints about it, so its a very common problem & as mentioned above even the coopers have it.

i have other cars with older BFG's & other brands & the letters are as white as can be & a smooth surface, these were a very dingy almost tan color & had a rough surface like a cats tounge & no matter what i used would not clean up to white, & as clean as i could get them, within a month or so of sitting in the garage they were dingy again & the tires had a brown film on it. its from the mold release agents &/or new chemicals they use in the rubber, BFG themselves explained that to me as well as my tire shop. BFG is no longer what they were, they along with many other brands are owned & made by coker tire now. i will see if i have pics of the letters somewhere.

In regards to running Tiger Paws on a Ford, they revived the Super Duty name AND they're using 'Eastbound and Down' on their latest commercial so I guess it's OK...lol

There is an entire thread on this site about the white letters turning brown. It's real.

weird, the 255/60 is one the most common 15" sizes for these bfg's... i would not have accepted 4 year old tires. check your white letters, if they are defective as i described bfg will most likely replace them for free... including mounting/balance.

the 2 i just had replaced 2 weeks ago were done through discount tire as my local sears store i used for the other 8 is now closed. the replaced tires from discount were only a few months old.

thanks for that link on the white letters, i must have missed it. yes its real & a pretty big problem, some dont care about or notice little details like that but they look terrible IMO & should not be sold like that.

i will update that thread with how to get them replaced if within warranty, seems like everyone on the thread just deal with it or turn the tires around to blackwall... thats fine for older gtos etc, but 2nd gen friebirds & many other 70/80's cars came with white letters & it looks right or better IMO. unacceptable BFG is selling tires like this.

For the last decade and 98,000 miles I've run Cooper Cobras. I've had one belt separation and one egg both on fairly high mileage tires.....I run 14" so pickins is slim!

Here ya go. These are on my wifes car. Dated the 39th week of 2015. White letters are perfect.
I also checked my bird. Nothing wrong with those BFG's either and they are dated the 43rd week of 2013, and that has to be at least my 4th set on the car, if not more, with no issues.

So if I'm lucky twice, I'd like to know why I haven't won the lottery yet

I'd sure like to see a picture of one of these BFG's that have white letter issues.

Of course it's okay. I own a Pontiac too and I in no meaningful way even consider the Tiger Paws linked to Pontiacs anymore Besides, they were a very reasonable price for a car that needed an odd size 215-60/15 and at the time it was under restoration, so cheap tire to roll around on for who knew how long was the goal at the time.

The Z has 255/60-15's on the back, and 215/65-15's on the front. The Formula has 275/60-15's on the back and 225/70-15's on the front.

ok, the issue seems to be mostly on the 255/60's from what i read.

found a pic that shows it somewhat, not sure if these get resized on here but if you can zoom in you can clearly tell the letters are a tan'ish color compared to the white of the car.

The white letters turned black on my BFGs, of course I mounted them to the inside and hit them with black spray paint.

Those are 225/60-15's on my goat.
Brand new set of redlines are stored, 70 series I was told would fit but rub on the front fenders.
:/

Could be you used up all you're lottery luck buying tires. No, I'm not trying to start nothing. I'm pretty sure I've done the same kind of thing, lol.
