Hey goatwgn, how many quarts of atf in that 200? With that pan she looks like a couple gallons! LOL.
Also, do i need to have the TV cable connected if i need to run in the new cam. I don't have the geometry set up yet on the tripower. i just wondered if i could break the cam in with the TV cable disconnected.

I think some of Bendtsen's kits include a starter in the price. Don't know about this one as I can't find it on their website. But likely the original starter is supposed to work and I presume they have a spacer to move the flexplate back that 1/4 inch.

There is a tripower kit out there but its $300 plus for a stamped steel bracket, carb throttle bracket and a couple carb gaskets. I think i can make my own for a tenth of that. There is enough info around here to make one i am sure.

Trans is in
Ok guys here go! I had to clearance a small part of the firewall at the start of the hump to clear the dipstick, and clearance a bit at the back of the transmission 8" back from the output shaft. here is a couple of pics. oh and for the GP/cat guys a 64 bonne driveshaft fits perfect!
I also had to 'squish' the crossmember in the center to clear the driveshaft

Interference with the dipstick tube? Hadn't heard about that one yet. But most installations that have given information were probably for a 400 not a 200. Maybe it fits for a 400. Still looks close on the floor hump so if I had the 3/4 inch adaptor it would probably take a little more massaging. And would take some close inspection at the bell hosing to see what interference there might be at that spot. No doubt would require putting in an assembled engine and trans as the top two bolts would probably never go in with the extra 3/4 inch. Have done it with the factory Slim Jim and it is a little tight.
Keep it coming and will be interested to see how the trans/cross member mount works out. And nice to know the old driveshaft works. That gives a good idea about how the overall length fits. And if installed with a 3/4 adaptor it may be slightly long. You probably need to rotate pictures in Photoshop first and resave. Not a big deal - I can to that anyway. What did that transmission pan cost? |

the dipstick was an aftermarket unit supplied with the transmission. Same with the pan. Thanks again goatwgn! lol. the front of the hump where it meets the firewall is the only interference at the front. agreed on the massaging for the extra 3/4". I have only removed /installed as a combo of engine and trans so I cannot speak to installing them separately. I bought the bonne driveshaft a few years ago in anticipation of the swap. $12 driveshaft! and it worked! I will put up pics of the crossmember when it is complete.

Just noticed you are in Canada. From your pictures I think it looks like you are working with a US chassis and not a Canadian Pontiac that sometimes had a Chevy chassis. At least it doesn't look like what I would expect if it were a Chevy chassis. Also, that 64 Bonneville drive shaft that fit intrigues me. I don't remember you ever saying for sure exactly what you are working with. As you have a block mounted starter provision but a Slim Jim tranny I have presumed it to be a 64 and most likely a Catalina/or GP. That would mean you had a 120 inch WB and then used the shaft from a 123 inch WB Bonne. Unless of course you have a Safari which would have a 119 inch wheelbase like those of us with 1961 Catalina/Ventura/Safari cars. ?? Damn, I must seem like a pain in the *** by now. |

That's okay I got a 64 Pontiac Grand Prix (check my sig.) I didn't want to Canadian Pontiac because it had a Chevy engine. Yep this car is All-American. bought it because I wanted pure Pontiac! and I like the GP

Wasn't sure what the car was. One of your attached pictures looked like it is not what is on your avatar. With the 3.90 the 200 should still have a great first gear. That first gear ratio is what I like best about old Jim. But the non-existent second gear that should be there is a bummer. And I hate to pound on it hard as I question it's strength. But it runs like I think the factory intended so I haven't changed it yet.
Still interested in your solution for the rear mount. |

i only beat the tar outta my jim because i knew i was replacing it. It took it just fine. LOL. The rear mount will be a combination of 1/4" plate steel, welding and a couple of bolts for good measure. i will submit a photo or two when i have it made up. I am currently in the prototyping stage. LOL
I was originally a 3.05 rear with the jim so i am expecting great things from the 3.90.

We installed a 1/4" thick plate to the existing cross member. There is very slight rotational force on the crossmember which i may be able to curb by driving a bolt right through the frame/rubber/bracket on both sides to provide a little more 'squish' on the mounting locations. bolting up the trans may curb this too! All comments and ideas are welcome.
Thanks AZ. The exam went pretty well, should hear back in a week or 2. Keeps my options open to start my own business or lead an existing one. A mater electrician must be employed if the company is doing electrical work. If anyone wants to rotate the pic for me that would be great! LOL
