Factory block 4.230 bore
Old Eagle cast 4.210 stroke, 3.25 mains

Has outlasted 1 block, and made as much as 950 RWHP, currently Making 580ish RWHP. Needless to say, this was the last year for this crank.

Previous 400 used a factory 350 non N crank,about 550HP at 7000rpm for over 300 passes in a 'weak' 557 block,it's still running in another car.
New 421 turbo combo has an AP Scat 4.00" forging, hoping for around 12-1400HP.
I'd have no qualms about using a 3.75" Armasteel crank in a high HP turbo combo if I could keep the rpm down to 6000.

Default Lotta controversy?

Not sure where the controversy is?

73 455 block, N103 crank, cast lines in the crank were filed, blended and polished to perfection, then cut 10/10 balanced and nitrided to provide larger clearance than OEM...

The block got the same treatment on all casting lines, lifter valley included, no casting flash anywhere...

4.185 bore, 4.21 stroke, 463 cubic inches...

Just wrapped up my 5th season with this engine, 837 passes, about 10-20 break-in street miles back in 2006 and then all bracket racing, mostly 660', some 1320' passes. Launch @ 2500, 1-2 @ 6000, 2-3 @ 6000, traps around 6000 w/373's...

Close to 600 HP maybe...

Hey 455FB1969...the prep on that block and crank looks very nice. FWIW, when I was running the Discomobile with the nitrous engine, the 455 block I had was of '75 vintage and began life as a 2-bolt. Drilled it for splayed caps, filled it as high as I could and still be able to run coolant through it and deburred it similar to yours.

Factory Pontiac cast crank, later vintage, no "N" on it anyplace. Mated up to lightweight "I" beam rods and light weight JE pistons. Making a solid 550hp or a tad more, daily driven and raced on occassion.

I've never worried about the factory cast cranks, but they are becoming difficult to obtain, so we have been using the Star Galaxy forgings for the past few years, zero issues at any power level......Cliff

I hear you. I just became so damn addicted to that turbo power ,that I thought with such a chassis and the turbo power that car would be an amazing ride in the quarter. Not that it wont be the way you planned it.
Look forward to seeing it when its done.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, but...although this car has been in the high 5's back in the day on fuel, the chassis will only cert' to a 7.50 by today's safety standards. That's why I'm sticking with a conservative combo.

Building a '60 389 block, splayed center four bolt caps, filled block, 4.155 Ross dished, forged Ohio 3.75 crank and GRP aluminum 6.625 rods. To be turbocharged thru 325 cfm KRE D-Ports . Horsepower?--we'll see.
Dude, why the post? Can you shed some light on the "controversy"? Been a lot of combos displayed here and no explaination. Mark L
