Peter,

Wow, sorry to hear about this, especially because I can completely empathize with you. I had almost the 'exact' same thing happen to me on my '67 GTO... Hope you are able to end up with at least one car out of this...

PS..This guy's name wasn't Lenny was it? That guy filed bankruptcy here and left the state. Sure sounds like his M.O...

Even looking at the area under the gold car's tag, I see major rust. While the blasted car has flash rust (ok, a little past that), I wouldn't think that sitting outside for a year could accomplish that major of rust damage in Oklahoma. The gold car is rusting from the inside out, and I'd restore the blasted car after looking at the photos.

Back home in Ohio again. Pop said he's ready for the cars whenever they get here....

Default 2 Rusty cars!

Well here they are after they were pulled from that yard in Oklahoma. They are just waiting to be taken to Ron's place in Ohio for him to have a look at them and see what the next steps are for the cars. Are they worth saving, do we restore one car from two or just bite the bullet and get rid of both of them...

We seem to be missing the front hood, chrome and fenders...hopefully they are still with the cars and they were taken off to fit on the transporter as they were too long. The red car seems to now have a broken windshield, something it never had before.

Hope to have more photos in a week or so...

Peter

As soon as they get to the Store-n-Lock,... I'll do a quick survey and snap some pics. My guess is that it looks worse than it really is (not that they look great)... I've seen worse.

First order of business... some tarps!!!

Ron

As promised.... They arrived late yesterday afternoon... WOW!! It took us 3 hours to unload (in the rain). Peter, you owe me and Pop a beer...

The maroon Bonneville is definately salvagable. The gold one.... well,.. I think it will never see the road again.

The gas tank of the gold one is shoved up into the rear tire, and the frame is shot; at least whats left of it.

Trunk pan, frame looks awesome on the maroon one.

I've got a tarp over the good one right now and may put one one the gold one in the next day or so before I leave Europe

Default A sad tale of 2 65 Bonneville Convtibles

Well this will be the final chapter in the sad tale of these two cars...

I went over to see the cars and have a chat with Ron who kindly let me store them after they were pulled of that field in Oklahoma, he looked at the cars and the Gold one is too far gone, but the Burgundy one could be saved...but is it worth it?
By the time I plough money into that car to bring it back to life I could have bought another car and had change.

So the decision has been made and Ron will help me sell the cars for parts or scrap. A sad end for a 3 owner car with just over 100,000 miles on the clock that was a great driver...but a lesson learnt and I won't be doing that again.

Once the cars have finally been sold I'll look around for something to replace them...and not a huge project...something to enjoy in the summer months.

I'm lusting a little for the gold one. It has A/C. A good donor 4 door might make the difference.

..the Gold car has no title and would need a lot of work to make it a nice car again...rather than using a four door as a donor, you could use the Burgandy car as a starting point and use the firewall (with the aircon holes) and the dash from the Gold car.
It might be better to wait to see if a Gold comes up for sale rather than try and restore this car...just a thought.
