my car seemed to work better on the street

With a car like that, you oughta be able to do 0 to 100 to 0 in what, 1/4 mile??? Maybe do it in the drive way with good enough brakes!

think someone mentioned the magnaflows on being quiet. i second that.

i put 3.5 inch oval magnaflows behind a healthy 482 with 2"x3.5" headers. i did put a 2.5" collector reducer inside the 3.5" pipe before the mufflers also. sheite, the car is not as loud as those annoying chevy boy pickups running around this part of the country.

'78 Macho T/A DKM#95, 461 stroker, 73 YX 400 block, SRP pistons, KRE 310 heads,
XE274 cam, 1.65 rockers, Hooker 1 3/4 headers, Q-Jet, RPM Manifold.

That sounds like a really nice car I'm jealous.

505 CI...4.350 bore x 4.250 stroke...IA II block.All Pontiac 4.250 crank...BME Aluminum 6.625 rods
JE pistons 10.5 to 1...Comp custom solid roller 264/274 lobe 112 .730 lift...Wide Port E-heads
T & D rocker-shafts...Victor intake ported Pro Systems 1100 dominator...Pump Gas 10.80 compression....Best pass 9.45 @ 140

Gach-dane!Do you actually do weekend cruising with your 70?Any glass or factory panels? That's a sweet pump gas "street car" combo, and capable of running 9's? But what you guess the noise decible is with the Borla's? There's a kid in my neighborhood with a Saleen Rustang and it's almost as loud as my 70, but capable of listening to his CD's when cruising. I hesistate to go larger on my exhaust system( 1- 3/4 hedman/3" collectors with 3.5 exhaust, single chamber mufflers, turned down in front of rear) for fear of lost performance. Some interesting suggestions here I'm following.

Like many I have a issue with the length of mufflers I can get under my Trans Am. The combo is a 505 at about "650 hp" with 2-inch headers, 3 1/2" to 3" Dr Gas X-pipe going into 14" Ultraflow welded mufflers and full 3" tailpipes. Street driven, not real quiet but tollerable to me.

Around 760 HP...Fiber glass nose...two sets of doors...fiber glass for the track
and steel with windows that go up and down for the street...( LOL ) Decible level
is around 80-90 decible's with the cones in the collectors. The exhaust system is 4"
with 4" merge collectors. With turn downs coming out of the tail pipes..right in front
of the rear axle tubs. The car has and will run 9.50's to 9.60's pretty consistainly
I have no doubt about that..it's a whole different tune up for the strip.

Cruising..yeah with the cones no problem. There's a couple of cruises just about
twice a week. We have one at our local beach every Tue night. That's about 10 miles from my house..then there's one about 5 minutes at the Dairy Queen
where a bunch of guys hang out.

Here the thing...cruising around town is no problem...because a bunch of us
go together...as long as guys don't get crazy and start pulling hole shots every
thing is ok...most of the guys are making around the same HP. For me it's a Pontiac
thing...the Chevy guys think their King until I rip off those mid 9's second runs.

But here's the thing about driving the car around...if you put your foot into
you can hear it for blocks even at 80-90 decibels. For me it's just know fun..to
many things to do..jetting it down...change air bleeds..cone in and out..doors
on and off. So it's to the point you decide one or the other. It's all new to me
right now...so most of the hassle is just about over with. The economy is probably
going to dick tate what I do with the car this year.
