Lucky dog!!!!!! That 3.73 sure would be nice to have, and with a posi to boot. You for sure will have a very desirable piece of history in the Pontiac community. I have seen a bunch of 2+2's pop up on ebay but only one convertable in the last two months. It's good to see you working on it and thanks for keeping us updated.

Patrick,
EH? you like that add? I've already add a few hits off of it. Maybe some day I can retire and just work on old Pontiac's If you go to Autozone, they'll loan you the spring compressor for free (buy it and return it), and it shouldn't take you but about an hour to get them out, (and probably less painful than a broken hand). See ya' tomorrow. -r-

Yeah, make sure you get the one that goes up thru the shock hole. I bought one but it was for a strut type. I rented the right one from advance, and it made life very easy.

frame to far gone to repair?
Maybe not to far gone. If it was the last of its kind I would have repaired. However mine is not. Tin Worm Carnage did its damage. Now looking for a good boxed frame. You can see where the boxed welds just split open. My guess thawing ice.

Wow!!! I've never seen frame rust before. What factors come into play for thick metal to rust like that? Guess i'm lucky down here. On your car it is worth it due to what it is. A run of the mill Cat like mine would quickly become a parts car if I found that. Keep up the good work.

Snow, lots of snow. Snow gets in the cracks melts from the salt on the roads freezes and thaws and bam 42 years later this is what is left.
Im not scared. It will live again. Thanks Hitman Patrick |

I have wondered about this before. If you compare that to an open framerail car, you will feel a lot better. There is not nearly as much metal on those.
If I was going to all the trouble of having the frame off the car, I would just get another one. Hard to get in to them to stop the stuff for good. For what you'd spend for a parts car with a frame, you would save a ton of aggravation.

Patrick,
Yep, that's about what I expected from looking at it before you took it over to Readi Strip. I still have to agree with DH. Your rear end casing is one thing, but you'll have a crap load of $$$ in frame repair. If it was a 1932 "one-of-a-kind", I say yes: repair, but you can get a frame from Steve and at least you'll know it's square, as we discussed on you suspension stuff. You'll just end up with a much better end product and peace of mind. I'd call it a boat anchor. We'll talk next week at Steves. BTW, I doubt I'll have your differential done. The pitting is taking a bit more time to get taken care of, so I don't have it at Davids yet to get the gears put back in again. I should get it to that point by today or tomorrow. -r-

I was lucky, my frame was rusty behind all 4 wheels, but it was repairable. I didn't fix it myself, Gary V. did his magic to it and made look like new...can't even see the welds. I have some before repair pics. Will post later.

Patrick:
Yikes.....that is a lot of rust in a lot of places! Excellent choice to get a replacement frame. The rust damage on my frame appears to be centralized to the wheel well areas, so I'm hoping that I'll be able to have it repaired when the time comes. My project is coming along very slowly lately, almost to a crawl. I do have a lead on some inner fenders which I will need for the body work. I just wish I had more time to devote. Keep up the fine work Patrick, it looks like you're right on track and it will be exciting to see the later stages of the restoration. Dave

Dissapointed for sure. I was hopeful to try and save as many original pieces that I can. But hey, metal rusts and body panels get replaced all the time. I am thankful to have the original engine, transmission and differential.. The true heart and soul of every car. It will just take a little longer to have a rolling chassis.
Dave Keep plugging away I know you will get it done. Not a matter of if, just when. keep you guys posted when I get a new frame. Hey Ron How about an authentic German Chocolate Cake? I will supply the gallon of milk to wash it down. mmmmmmmmmmmm Yummy Patrick |

patrick, out of curiosity, did you find a vin stamped in the frame or had it rusted away? if you did restamp the new frame in the same location after cleaning it up. it'll save a lot of hassle if the car ever gets inspected.

Open house on the 29th. Have not heard if the yard has moved. Only found 2 numbers a 5 and 8. Just too pitted to find anything I did read somewhere that once the steel is stamed the stamping is in the metal and can be retrieved. I would like to know how. Chasing parts is fun. Patrick |
