One thing to keep in mind the Northwind was really designed for high ports, to keep everything under the hood, because high ports are almost 1” taller the E-head. So a Victor with high ports needs to be cut down.
The other thing to consider when getting a Northwind is the port opening in the head you have. Because the Northwind comes in different configurations so make sure you order it to match your port opening. Just throwing that out there. Or if your picking up a used one.

Another thing to remeber, the ports are too high in the manifold itself. That needs to be dealt with if you want to make good power.

If you are flowing an intake and not using a carb, do you use a radius? Stan

When Ed got his from KRE to match up to his Wide Ports. Dan Barton ported it for him. But on dyno it definitely need 1” spacer. But his is a street car, and trying to fit it under hood, He had to eliminate the spacer 74 Firebird, says he could make it work by modify the hood scoop. I think the P-Dude one, but was having trouble getting it.

The Torker 2 has a short runner, when Charlie change over from Torker 1 intake to T-2 he lost a tenth. Crazy

Just to be clear I'm referring to the port floor is to high. IMO there is little point in using a NW without a spacer if some sort.

First picture is Ed’s porter Northwind ported by Dan Barton. You can see the difference betwen the floor compared to the Victor ported by Gabby second picture. Not that it applies to you.

Thanks. What I have found interesting is just how much of a choke point some carbs can be. Stan

Fwiw the NW is 9ci smaller in plenum vs Victor.
NW doesn't need a spacer because of plenum volume, it needs a space because there is no turn from carb to runners without a spacer and because it needs some room from floor to carb. With a spacer the NW looks to be a pretty good intake. |
