Hood tach was a factory through 1971 on certain A-bodies. Look at the 71 accessories book. As said, the dealer could have put it on any car the customer wanted.

I have very few pictures of that 74, and the one I posted is the only one I have of the whole car, and is faded and discolored. No digital camera back then, so we didn't take that many pictures. The car was a month or two old, to me. It had been ordered by the owner of Chief Pontiac in Philadelphia, not as a demonstrator, but as his personal car for the year, and did have a couple thousand miles on it. He didn't want to let it go, and they tried hard to get me to buy another one, but all they had were mustard colored and other "earth tones". I didn't want to trade my 69 GTO for an earth tone.

I like it too. Mine had the burgundy interior (dash, console, door panels), but with the seats ordered in white, and with the honeycombs.
One of the things that drew me to the Grand Am was I didn't like the GTO on the Ventura platform and with a 350, and the other A bodies in 73-74 has a front bumper that looked like it was tacked on as an afterthought...a chrome 4 X 4. The Grand Am with the urethane front end just looked more smooth. We got used to the 5 mph bumpers, but back then it was a radical departure from earlier styles. |
