Sounds like he can't understand any of it.
You DO NOT need a Jumper wire, and scotch locks. No way no how. It as plain as day in BOLD print. And here's the purple wired moved from it's original #7 to #3 terminal

GREAT post, fellas! Thanks so much for the research. I've been driving my 66 a bit at night lately and not seeing the parking lamps on with the headlights on has been driving me batty! I'm going to move the little purple wire around first thing tomorrow. Thanks again!

Soc, when you get the chance post a picture of it lit up at night.
No problem Bill. We thought you didn't get the moving of the purple wire bit instead of using scotch locks. Why do all that work when you only need to move the purple wire.

Soc, that looks great. Just the way it should be. And it's not really much of a project. It only took me about 20 minutes total time when I did mine. Hardest part was getting that purple wire out of the wiring block for the switch, and making sure it was locked back into the #3 spot so the block would reconnect to the switch. Like Charles said, it so darned simple it's a wonder no one figured it out in all these years. I haven't had mine out at night yet, so no picture so far. First chance I get I'll post a night photo too. I do know she'll be out the 3rd Saturday in March for our local Cruise Night. I'll get a photo then, or sooner if I can. I only wish someone would make the parking light lenses in amber. It would look great in the daytime too with them that way.

Thanks for resurrecting and detailing this out with the simple move of the wire from one terminal to the other on the switch.
Looks like you're gonna need to buy "Old 67 Goat" a few cases of his favorite Adult Beverage for all of his "Phone Tech Support" !!?? Last edited by Alvin; 02-23-2009 at 07:10 PM. Reason: Typo Tpyo Tipeo |

For reference: All the turn signals still work great, front and back, as do the tail lights and brake lights after moving the little purple wire. A perfect and perfectly simple 10min mod, and, I agree, it's just the way it should have been from the factory 43 years ago!

Charles, you are NOT a dummy. At least you got the jumper to work. I didn't even get that far.

I just did this mod on my 65 and it is exactly as described on the 66. The wires are the same colors also. Looks great with the lights on! Thanks for doing the research!

Well Charles, it looks like I'm now the dummy. I had the Goat out this last Saturday for a raod trip and now the parking lights won't come on with the head lights. So I switched switches yesterday. With the original switch I get parking lights on and no head lights. With the replacement switch I get head lights and no parking lights. All the wires in the switch block are ok and connection to the switches are good as they should be. I played around with it all yesterday afternoon and I am now stumped. Looks like I've got to go thru it and check all of the grounds and hot wires again. At least the signal lights are working fine. LOL

Gary, your research made a GTO club newsletter. I dont remember which one, but I read it in the last couple of weeks.

Gary,
Time to get out the trusty VOM and stop guessing. Measure for voltage at the different leads off the switch, thru the dimmer and at the front end lighting units. WRITE it down, then come back. Charles |

That's what I'm gonna do Charles as soon as it warms up again. It's been bit too nippy to play outside today.
That's great Paul. I only hope Charles gets credit for it. Without him this wouldn't have happened. Is there a way Charles and I can get a copy of the newsletter? I've gotta have a copy to save.
