Bob,
That is way cool! Thanks for the pictures, what a nice, original car. Mine was optioned pretty close, same color combo and mine has the same steering wheel, console, 4 speed, and standard seatbelts. Mine came with standard gauged and rally II's though. If you have any more pictures, please post them or send them to me. I am especially interested in the original carpet color since I have heard some people say it is brown, tan or black. Chris |

A couple of more of that car. Spotted at Tipp City 2006-8... it wasn't there this year.

The carpet in the photos above appears to be a light brown and matches the carpet strip on the bottom of the deluxe door panels.
Here is a standard sandlewood interior picture from the site Tranz-Am. The carpet appears to be a similar light brown or tan color, but it may not be original. I think black carpet would be unsightly. Steve (RAFormulas), I didnt see you at the nats this year. Sorry I missed you. Bob

Bob, I was there Thursday night through Saturday. Left after the Tipp City Cruise, blew off Sunday. Stayed at the Drury again this year. I was looking around for ya... guess we never crossed paths. Have to try again next year. I will be taking one of my Lucy Blue 70 RA cars next year so it should be easier to spot me.

I'm pretty sure that car belongs to a guy named Ray, who is friends with Keith K. If so, that car didn't crack 10K on ebay. There is no way you could build it for that.
I would like to see more of the silver bird in the background, you sure don't see many that color. |

Ray's a forum member, so he can probably chip in more on the silver one. It's a '71. Some pics are here: http://www.midmichiganmuscle.com/71formulathumb.htm

If those Castillion Bronze cars belong to anyone on these boards I would be interested to know what paint system you used, how close the match was to original, and the paint formula if you have it.

Nice car to re-do. Nt first car in high school was a 1971 Formula 400. It was an auto trans car, but it was the same color as yours. Are you going to keep it the stock color? Good luck, nice car! Jeffy D

It's been a while since I posted, mostly because the body shop doesn't seem to be in any big rush to complete my car. The rough body work is done and it's in the first coat of primer. I'm real happy with the fit of the doors and deck lid, they line up real nice. (the fenders are not bolted on in these pics, they're just sitting in place so the body line looks like its off)
I spent some time recently stripping the window channels and weatherstrip channels, dash, etc... The car has some pitting in the channels, but no rot at all, so no sectioning was needed. I'm going back Sunday to finish stripping the dash and firewall, then they will start blocking the car next week (or so they say). Last edited by eaglesan13; 11-13-2009 at 07:16 PM. |

I had to take a drive into the country to a rural town where I could purchase the lacquer paint for the dash. I have not painted a test patch yet but it looks pretty close. The interior color is sandlewood which uses a medium color (tan) and darker color on the dash.
I went to a local paint store yesterday to have a sample of the exterior paint mixed up. My painter uses DeBeers paint (solvent based). They didn't have a formula so they had to use a PPG number and call the manufacturer to convert it to a formula they could mix. It's hard to see in this picture, but it's pretty close to original. |

I feel the 235/60's are a little short....the 255/60 will fit the rim fine and is a much closer match to the original tyre diameter for the 15x7's.....I think they fill the wheel arches nicely.
Sounds like panel shops are the same the world over....I'm only having some relatively small jobs done on mine ( few days work would do it), but its been over 6 weeks of stop and start work....very annoying. They do nice work, and are reasonable on their costs....so I persist in using them, lol.

I was NOT trying to rub it in! Those are just some of the best pictures of 235/60R15s on Rally IIs that I have. I am actually in the midst of painting two more wheels so I can put that set on my 71 TA (two of the wheels in those Formula pictures are junk). I think the Goodyear RWL tires and Rally IIs look great. 255s are too big IMO. They fill out the wheel wells, but are too "fat" around the sidewalls. Maybe they'd look OK on 15x8 wheels.
